My Training Diary

Monday 27th Feb 2006 I got some bad news yesterday. My trainer Adam phoned me to let me know two boys stole the British Lung Foundation tub from the counter yesterday. It had lots of sponsor money in the tub, so obviously I feel very dissapointed today! I cannot believe that anyone can be so cruel. I hope they get caught but that won't get the money back so I will have to work a bit harder now to makeup for it. I have't done any training today, But I will be back in the gym on Wednesday. I ...

My Diary

Thursday 16th Feb 2006 Well my training starts again tomorrow, and to be honest I am looking forward to it. I have noticed that as I have not been training for over a week I get more breathless when I walk. So obviously the exercise must be making a difference. One of the main reasons for me wanting to do the marathon was because I wanted to let people know who suffer from COPD that they would really benefit with exercise, as it would improve there lung capacity. I hope that by seeing me w ...

Introducing Asics Gel-kayano Xii

In this advertisement that I read in a magazine I came across the shoe company Asics. They are advertising a new top of the line trainer’s shoe called the GEL-Kayano XII. This shoe is designed for runners and those who like to run. The description of this advertisement is simple. It’s a man who just finished a run quoting “I’ll keep running because it educates me. Before my first 5K I wasn’t even sure how long a “K” was. I was very glad to hear it’s shorter than a mile.” ...

Naha marathon held yesterday. Naha marhathon is biggest marathon in Okinawa. I didn't participate this marathon. But my boyfriend run this marathon. So I went for cheering my boyfriend. I saw Naha marathon first time. But it was interesting for me! Some people wear costume when they run. Some people run 32.195km wearing a school costume, having a flag on his back, putting a musk. Not only runner but also other people have a fun. People cheering by plaing the drum, dancing. It was like fest ...

The Trouble with Running

Having just completed my first race this year i,ve now discovered new and ever more interesting ways to empty my bladder while on the move ! having done a couple of Triathlons i,m almost skilled at weeing on the bike , but this time after a reasonably good run at a local 5K i got caught short on the way home , so sat in traffic with only a mile to home but absolutely bursting to get rid of my excess, i could have stopped at the side of the road and wee,d over a hedge ! but on a busy main r ...

On the Road Again ...

Its now three weeks after the bike accident and I will be running a race on Saturday. I still have a knot on my knee which hurts and is noticeable but I must go on so as not to get stiff in the joints and down on myself. Light walking and jogging and an occasional bike ride have prepped me for this next race. I should be OK and can look forward to the food they serve after wards. Runners are a different breed- come rain, sleet, wind and even snow we are out there doing our thing for a mult ...

Running Redux

Its now Monday-nine days after the triathalon accident and I'm healing but slowly. The hematoma on my knee is about the size of a plum-downsized from a grapefruit and the abrasions on the face, elbows and shoulders are slowly disappearing. My hand cannot fully grip-most likely a bone bruise but the xrays showed no fractures. I surmise that because I was physically active for most of my life, I'm healing faster-no curealls in the way of food and drink and no magic pills-just common sense an ...

Democracy in the West Bank: Friday, August 18

When I got back to Ramallah yesterday evening, my grocer asked me how I had enjoyed Jordan. I told him that it had been nice to see my old friends and spend time cooking and visiting with them, but that it was a relief to get back home. I don’t remember ever feeling this way when I lived in Jordan, but all the gossip during this visit felt oppressive. Only two tribes live in my village – both were nomadic Bedouin a generation ago – but now both families seem rife with tension. I hear ...
