Scott Brought Home the Gold!

Here's my Scotty, he entered in the under 15's kumite in an International Karate Championships in Birmingham yesterday. Roger explained that there was over 200 competitors in the 12's - under 15's category. That event took almost 5 hours to complete, with the competitors fighting off each other. The triplets Scott inc made it to the semi finals but it was Scott and another guy who made it into the final and Scott beat him by 8-7. I'm soooooooooo chuffed, Scott is over the moon.

Appliance Golf

This is the world's fastest growing new sport: appliance golf. Instead of golf clubs, you use sledgehammers. Instead of hitting a stupid little ball, you hit washers, refrigerators and television sets. It's much less expensive than green's fees and golf carts, and the sledgehammers are not nearly as costly as a set of golf clubs. One anti-stress session ought to make just about anyone feel better. It's called destruction therapy. Here's a photo of an appliance golf course: Maybe one will b ...

Ahhhh Relief!

Last night around 11 our storms hit! Relieving us of the heat wave. However, I did not get much sleep. I had one scared boy and two scared dogs. Rambo was so scared he climbed under my blanket! But it is a pleasant 75 degrees right now. At Kota's tae kwan do class last night they were practicing falling. They had two mats out. One you just had to run up and fall so you landed on your shoulder and then roll. The other mat had a barrier in front of it. The barrier was chest high on Kota. The ...

National Bowling Tournament

This past weekend we drove to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the national bowling tournament. Mr. Troutbend participates in it every year with his former team mates from the Denver area. I hadn't been to it for several years and everyone aged considerably more than I have since they last saw me. See the short little guy in a beige shirt? He is a bouncer at a strip club in Denver. The next guy works at a Kroger store, and the next one is Mr. Tbend. Other teams tried to dress alike, but Mr. Tbe ...

I Did It!

Well, last Tuesday night, I went to a Taiko drum orientation. I mainly wanted to learn about it before I decided to join. Taiko drums are retired/reused wine barrels covered on both ends with stretched and bleached cowskins. The drumming tradition is fairly old in Japan. 26 yrs ago, my instructor, Koji Nakamura, came from Japan to start a taiko project. At that time, there were only 2 organizations in the U.S. Today there are approximately 10,000. If you have ever seen a taiko show, it is ...

And What Do You Do for Fun Around Here?

Well if yer The FatCrankyBastid and me and yer saving to get out of this madhouse you find cheap forms of entertainment. The cheapest kind as you all know, is that which is found at another’s expense. We often mess with his dad. Via his bedroom window, we found that by using the kitchen’s remote control we can surf channels, turn the sound up or down, disable the text for the deaf on CrazyClaude’s tele. It’s just as well he is mostways deaf or else he’d hear us outside snorting w ...

You Might Be A Martial Artist If..... *You trip, go into a roll and come up in a fighting stance. In church. *You answer your boss "Kiai". *You put your hands together in a martial arts bow position (one hand open the other closed) after grace at the dinner table. *You tie your bathrobe belt in a square knot. Then check to make sure the ends are exactly even. *You accept change from the cashier using a perfect knife hand with the thumb carefully tucked in. *Every time you handle a screwdri ...

We went to the water again this weekend because it is really really hot here. There were lots of people. I can't stay on the computer very long now. My Owner says maybe tomorrow she will leave it on for me. I hardly get to use it very much any more. I am real tired now because it's pretty late. But I got a chance to be on the computer so I am. I hope I can see you tomorrow! from Waterloo This is what it looks like on a crowded beach.

OK not quite 'Night' but it's fight day, something about the way that rolls off the tounge don't quite sound right! Anyhoo, Emily, Joss, Dylan and Scott are all taking part into today's Karate Open 2008. Emily's up changed fed and ready, but the boy's are still in the land of nod {{tut}}. I hope Scott and Dylan don't get injured today - they're grading for the're brown belts tomorow! I have a stratogy which I think might work and prevent Scott and Dylan getting hurt; since the catagory the ...

Watching Pro Sports

These days I feel somewhat of a hypocrite when I watch professional sports on television. The only time that I watch TV, in fact, is either sports or a movie. But I complain so much about how absurdly high the salaries of athletes are today, I feel kind of guilty when I spend any time watching them play. Their salaries could be slashed to a mere 10% of their present amount and these prima donnas would still be the highest paid people in the country. Many of them sit out huge amo ...

Grrrrr-reat!

Today was a great day! It was the field trip to the zoo. And even if it did sprinkle on and off, it turned out to be alot of fun. My daughter went with us, my bodyguard. She does not tolerate stuck up people. lol We had a blast. Even though we drove kota to the zoo, he was actually in a small group with a chaperone. So Kota's teacher introduced us and said we could all go together. This mom was alot of fun, we had a good time with her, laughing at the kids. It was her son, kota and another ...

Stories like This Restore My Faith in Our Youth

Opponents carry injured home-run hitter around bases... PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - With two runners on base and a strike against her, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon University uncorked her best swing and did something she had never done, in high school or college. Her first home run cleared the center-field fence. But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury. She crawled back to first but could do no ...

Life in the Rv Lane

I've never been camping in my life. I've always liked being out in the woods, but my parents have always been the complete opposite. My mom claims that she likes camping, but she said that my dad has always been firmly against it. Now that my sister is married, and I'll be heading off to college soon, he is thinking that he wants to get an RV and travel around the country. I guess this would be the closest that my dad would ever get to sleeping in the woods. He always demands that there ne ...

Up to five of the Street's longest serving actors - such as William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, and Barbara Knox, who stars as Rita Sullivan - could be gone by the end of the year, the Sun reports.
Painful Encounters of the Alpine Kind

It was the last run of the day. Mary and I had been skiing since 9:30 a.m. It was cold. We had maybe eight or nine runs under our belts, and we were ready to pack it in. In order to get back to our ski-on, ski-off condo on the mountain, we had to do a little traversing. At one point, we were on top of a ridge, looking down over a ski lift line. If we skied down the basin and kept to the left we could scoot between the lodge and the ski lift, running behind the line of skiers waiting to get ...

The Park

The trip to the park was great. A perfect day. Its 68 degrees with a nice breeze blowing. I have determined the kota can befriend anyway. He had kids younger than him, his age, and older than him. The older kids thought he was hysterical. I watched him for a while then took out my book to read, occasionally looking up to check on him. what I did find funny is the different types of moms. I was in jeans and a tee shirt. I have no problem with kota getting dirty, he had on play clothes, swea ...
