  Poor, Poor Minnie Pearl

About a week and a half ago, Minnie Pearl came into the house favoring her left front foot. I picked her up and looked at it but could see nothing. I thought that perhaps she had bruised her little paw on the rocks around my house. She didn't seem to be bothered too much by her foot; she just limped a little. However, Saturday morning I was sitting at the computer and heard this mournful cat cry. I thought that someone had dropped a kitten near my house, and it had found its way to my door. I looked out, but it wasn't a kitten; it was Minnie Pearl. When I opened the door for her, she hopped in on three legs. Her front left leg was held in the air. She looked so very pitiful. I picked her up, for I thought that she might have been hit by a car or that my blue heeler had played too roughly with her. I could feel nothing unordinary and there were no broken places in the skin that I could see. She was in such pain! When my son, the nursing student, awoke, I asked him to check her out. He found that it wasn't in her foot or leg, but in her shoulder that the pain was centralized. I called the vet, but the office in Vienna doesn't have an xray machine. They advised that I take her to the Anna office for the xray. Hubby drove, and poor Minnie cried and panted the entire trip while I baby talked, wrung my hands, and sweated bullets !The vet was so very nice and gentle with Minnie. Upon close examine, the vet found a small bite above Minnie's elbow(I can call it an elbow, can't I?). It had become infected and was very painful for her. The vet gave her two shots, one for pain and the other an antibiotic. She also gave me amoxicillin that I must give her twice a day--every 12 hours. Minnie was much relieved on the way home. She didn't cry or pant, but rested peacefully on her good side.Giving her the medicine has been somewhat of a chore. Minnie has all of her claws--every one of them on all four feet! Finally, after having been punctured many times, I wrapped her in a towel to squirt the medicine down her goozle. That has worked very well, for my wounds have begun to heal rather nicely. Today, I have seen remarkable improvement in her condition. She is beginning to put more weight upon her foot and no longer hops like Chester on Gunsmoke.

I am so glad to hear Minnie Pearl is feeling better. I love animals and hate to hear one hurt.

I gave her her last bit of medicine last night! Whoo Hoo--she is so very much better.

What a great name - Minnie Pearl!
And I am glad you figured out what her issue was! And I hope you heal quickly as well..

She is named after the real Minnie Pearl--She was dropped at our house when very small and so very sick. We spent a fortune on her, but she has been worth it. I thought of Minnie's hats with the price tags still on them!

Been there with trying to give meds to a cat - their claws seem to work like a cheese grater! The towel thing works a treat though. Hope see is back to full strength in no time.
comment by jensgems on May 9, 2008 12:48 AM ()
We are both doing well, thanks!

I am glad she's out of the woods!! It's hard being a pet owner you know what I mean? you think you're fine and then what happens? they EAT RAZORS. True story..
comment by spicybitch on May 8, 2008 9:57 PM ()
Oh no, razorsI'm happy now that it was only an animal bite!!!!!!!!!!!!
reply by angiedw on May 11, 2008 3:42 AM ()
Poor Minnie...hope she feels better soon. I've had experience trying to give cats meds ( the word here is try..LOL)...wrapping in a towel does help and squirting in their cheek while kinda holding their little mouth shut helps too. I have the scars to prove how hard it is..LOL

No Lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!When she got better with no pain, I began to hold her between my legs with her standing on her back feet. For some reason, she wasn't able to scratch that way!I'll remember the strategy for the next round of medication!

Oh, I am so sorry that your poor Minnie had to go through such an experience. Glad, so very happy that she's doing better! I'm sure you're taking very good care of her and spoiling her for now!
comment by sunlight on May 7, 2008 11:26 PM ()
She is a sweetie and spoiled. However, she is giving Devil Woman a run for her money now! I guess she is afraid to let another cat animal close to her!

I'm so sorry to hear about Minnie's trauma. But am so glad you took her to the vet and she is healing. Our pets are as much "children" to us as our human children are. I don't have any right now, and probably won't for a long time, but I still feel the pain of the losses I have had of beloved pets (for me it has been dogs!). Hugs to ya'll!

I have buried several pet family members and the pain is terrible! I always say that I will never again have a pet for that reason, but something always happens--one is dropped here and I become the nuturerer again!!!!!!!!!
reply by angiedw on May 11, 2008 3:49 AM ()
Awww, I hope Minnie Pearl is better and back to being herself again. The poor thing couldn't tell you what was wrong and doesn't understand the pain, so it's so hard to see a pet suffering. I'm glad you caught it in time and the necessary meds were secured. Oh, I really do hope she's better.
comment by donnamarie on May 7, 2008 9:58 AM ()
Thanks, Donna. She is all better and the meds all given. She is a twinkle toes again!!!!!!!

She will be all well after she has her antibiotics. China Cat got a terrible bite on her back that tore out some fur. I think Sassy did it but she healed nicely and the fur grew right back.

Poor China cat! Minnie is better, thank you! She is back on all fours now and all the medicine gone! Whoo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!

That's for sure--Judah and Minnie Pearl had to have their special TLC. I am so happy that both are so much better!
reply by angiedw on May 11, 2008 3:54 AM ()
glad Minnie is feeling better. we would wrap our cats in a pillow(head sticking out) to administer medicine and it still took two of us. dontcha just feel guilty when they walk away, giving you that "look" that sez "how dare you do that to ME!"

Glad to hear that she is getting better. How did she get bitten?
comment by hopefields on May 6, 2008 4:04 PM ()
We have barn cats that are extremely wild. I haven't been able to tame them since they won't let me get close enough. Minnie sometimes decides to sleep on the hay, and I suppose that one of the cats didn't like her being in the barn. The vet said that it is a bad time also because of the Toms getting all worked up!

She's a pretty cat!
Glad to hear she's feeling better -- cute pic, btw.
comment by mattguru18 on May 6, 2008 3:13 PM ()
She is such a loving little girl. She was so very good at the vet's even with the poking and prodding.

Awww I'm glad that she is feeling better Angie.
comment by texastar on May 6, 2008 2:19 PM ()
That is good. I am able to get on there just got stuck with 27,000 e-mails from there. But, they said they took care of it.

This morning, she was putting her entire weight on the left leg. I still have several doses of medicine to give her, however. The vet said that I must give all the amoxicillin. I couldn't access Blogster yesterday. Are you having trouble there?
reply by angiedw on May 7, 2008 4:59 AM ()
So glad you found out the bite before any blood poisoning took hold
comment by augusta on May 6, 2008 1:58 PM ()
Brilliant
reply by augusta on May 7, 2008 10:23 AM ()
I know; that was what concerned the vet. I was to take her back yesterday if the medicine failed to work, but happy days and four legs are back!

well you had me confused.Thought you were talking about
the real Minnie Pearl and you got me on this.
So sorry to hear the problems that she went through.
So glad that she is feeling better.
Hope that she will recover completley.

I loved the other Minnie Pearl. When my Minnie came to me, she had been dropped off--and so very, very sick. I babied her, got her medical care and she has blossomed. She was such a little rag tag that she reminded me of Minnie Pearl's hats with the price tag still hanging on them. Thank you for your good wishes--What have you learned about Buffy???
