  Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry.
Two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is yesterday with its mistakes and cares,
Its faults and blunders, Its aches and pains.
Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed.
We cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow.
With its possible adversities, Its burdens,
Its large promise and poor performance.
Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control.
Tomorrow's Sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds,
            but it will rise.
Until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This just leaves only one day . . . Today.
Any person can fight the battles of just one day.
It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternity's -
yesterday and tomorrow that we break down.
It is not the experience of today that drives people mad.
It is the remorse or bitterness for something which happened yesterday
and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.

Let us therefore live but one day at a time.

I spend entirely too much time rethinking the past and worrying about the future that I forget to enjoy all of the pleasures of now.

So many times we concentrate on the past or worry about the future and fail to appreciate the now and the many good things.

Hey, I need to be reminded also. I was moved by you and Queenie. So much pain, and I feel so helpless to comfort.

An important lesson for all of us to learn from and practice.

I know that I need to read it everyday---I dwell to much on the bad in the past and worry about tomorrow. I need to stop and smell the flowers of today!!!!

I learned this lesson when I was fighting breast cancer. The remorse of what I had done in the past that probably contributed to it, I could not change; the fear of what the future might hold was too big for me to deal with. I learned I had to accept the fact that I had the disease, not worry about why or what I could have done differently to prevent it; and to dwell in the present because the future was too overwhelming. I relied on something I heard someone tell a dear friend the day after his sixteen-year-old daughter had just died. When he broke down, stating that he didn't know how he was going to get through the immediate days ahead, his sister-in-law said, "Easy, Calvin. Just a little bit at a time."

I am so thankful that I can report that in August, God willing, I will celebrate my eighth year as a cancer survivor.

I hope that all is well now. Breast cancer runs on my mom's side of the family. My family is the only one that has not been touched by it. You do have to take one day at a time and try not to blame yourself or constantly say your whatif's. Very difficult for me to do.
