About Me

Lora Duguay, a polio survivor since the young age of 3, with a 26 year career as a medical language specialist, began oil painting as a hobby, emerging into a full time career when postpolio syndrome affected her life. Artistic creativity has been focused on the cultural beauty of native americans, gypsies and nature. Her paintings depict the beauty and romanticism of nomadic people living life from the earth, making her art unique, while her animals depict either the gentleness or ferocity associated with their nature. Lora is driven by the desire to create that which flows forth from a higher power. Copyright 2008 Lora Duguay - All Rights Reserved

If I may quote one of my favorite literary artists Oscar Wilde: "The pleasure that one has in creating a work of art is a purely personal pleasure, and it is for the sake of this pleasure that one creates. The artist works with his eye on the object. Nothing else interests him. What people are likely to say does not even occur to him. He is fascinated by what he has in hand. He is indifferent to others. If my work pleases the few, I am gratified. If it does not, it causes me no pain." November, 2007 Exhibitions: Native American Intertribal Art Exhibition, Dale Mabry Campus Art Gallery, Tampa - November Nov. 1 thru Dec 8 with Artists Festival Nov. 14; Florida Craftsman Juried Art Show, St. Petersburg Coliseum Nov. 17 and 18, 2007. University of South Florida Winter Collaborative Nov. 28, 2007. Tampa Museum of Art, Through My Eyes Exhibit, juried art show. Oldsmar City Hall Exhibit, Olsdmar, Florida. 2006 Exhibitions: Vocational Rehabilitation Exhibit, Tallahassee, Florida. 25th Anniversary Celebration of VSA Arts of Florida Exhibit Ruth Eckerd Hall. HCC Community College Art Gallery, Dale Mabry Campus. HCC Community College Gallery, Ybor City Campus. 2005 Exhibitions: The Women's Center, Jacksonville, Florida. Riverwalk, Jacksonville, Florida. The Cummer Museum, Creativity Works Exhibition. Currently a Member of VSA Arts of Florida. Lora's art work has been mentioned in the Spring/Summer Edition of USF Magazine and featured on the government television show "Polk Place" with the Native American Mother and Child painting. Fox Channel News 13 did a segment on "What's Right With Tampa Bay," about the life and art of Lora and the VSA 25th Anniversary Celebration, October, 2006.
