Health & Fitness > Getting Ready Fo Summer

  Getting Ready Fo Summer

When I needed to weight last year, I knew what the biggest culprit of my weight gain was - Nesquik.

I have always, been addicted to it. It began when my sisters children were small (I was about 7 years older than them & used to spend a lot of my childhood with them in my sisters). Rhiannon would buy this in order to encourage them to drink more milk. Therefore, when my own children arrived, I did the same, but I also got back into the 'habit'.

So, last year when I realised that I had put on too much weight for my liking, I knew I had to cut it out, along with a lot of other 'stuff' (cream cakes and hot x buns etc.)

When my son (who was living in his own flat at the time) popped in one evening, I cleared my pantry of all the 'bad' things - nesquik, cake recipe books,

etc. etc. etc.

That weekend when Bedrock came back from work & we went shopping, I had already drawn up my shoping list, which included (for me):

Special K (the red berry pack) (2 boxes)

Ryvita (wholewheat) crispbread

Lowfat spread

Philadephia with chives (to spread on the crisp breads) and the following to eat with them:

Tomatoes

Cucumber

Celery.

I also bought a packet of Special K snacking bars,

should the overwhelming urge for something

sweet develop (which did happen occasionaly).

Obviously, I drank a low calorie Coke drink when

needed.

Thats all I ate for a good few months, in the

end, I got used to it and it was not at all hard to

remain on it. I do from time to time, go back to it

when I feel I need to.

A few glasses of water a day does help your

metabolism - I have never been fond of tap water,

but found that I did like the bottled water, so I get

that for myself.

Now, excercise!! Once upon a time Lynnie and I used to walk for miles and miles and it was great!

But, now I only walk from the car to the store . . .

so, I decided to walk indoors. I'd put some music

on (radio whatever) and simply walk on the spot -

increasing the length of time accordingly, to how

fitter I became. It certainly did help my thighs

and bum!!

I realised, that I was actually eating more than I

had been eating before the diet, but as I was eating the correct food and, excercising (walking),

that my body had some calories to burn off!!!!!

This worked for me, it did take a lot of willpower

to begin with, but eventually, it became natural.

The good thing about it was if I became really

peckish, I would simply have another bowl

of Special K (always minus SUGAR!).

The 'bad' part is the bloody price, of Special K!

But, after checking all the other packets of Kellogs cereals, I was, able to substitute, it with

various other lower priced, cereals - they are just

as helpfull, but I when was, able to afford it, I got

the Special K simply because I loved it!!

Don't forget, that when you realise that you are

successfully losing weight (but not as much as you're desired loss) Once a week, allow yourself

one 'proper' meal (within reason - not cauliflour cheese, for example)!!

It seems to make all your suffering worthwhile!!!

Good luck!

Never 'give up' on 'giving-up'

It's funny because I was just over at Lynn's site and mentioned exercising to music. Your grocery list is sensible. It sounds as if you're going to do excellently! (My downfall has always been the starches, which I love!)

aw shux!!! Thanx for that Lynnette, sorry I have only just found this comment from you, or I would have mentioned it earlier today!! You just keep on being yourself, you are, the only roll-model you need, you are doing a fabulous job

That 'bug' is awful! Just got over it myself - my 'Avon' order arrived this morning & it contained the 'anti-aging' creme I had ordered - put some on just now to see what 'miracles' it can do . . . watch this space!

great advice! I am trying to lose weight for the summer. I refuse to be fat again this summer. I am walking when the weather allows, today its raining. and I am already feeling better, having more energy. I like the flavored waters the best!

I can tell that you are half way there merely by thinking positively! Keep on visualising yourself as the 'rollmodel' you want to become . . . honestly, it does give you the determination, to keep to your
goals. On occasion, the irritating things in life, do, hinder your plans e.g. a row with the husband/neighbours etc. BUT - if you do end up having an eating 'binge' because of something like that, DON'T, let yourself become depressed or give up - you are only letting the part of your brain who WANTS you to get off this diet stuff, to WIN! Pick yourself up, do not chastise yourself about it and carry on regardless You will succeed
