The BIG DEBATE:


When it comes to the debate of Who’s who in the tennis arena two names flash through my mind.. Sampras and Federer ..Now I get reminded of the comparisons drawn out between Sir Donald Bradman and Tendulkar.. The legendary Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher..And in both the cases the latter ones have been favoured by the media..but none can discount the average of 99.96 of The classy , tech-savvy Don of Cricket!! And the unassailable 76 or 78 pole positions earned by Senna in a span of just a few years before his pathetic fatal crash at Imola. I have always felt that Bradman and Senna have been far better than Sachin and Schumi taking into account the lack of infrastructure and facilities available for them during their reigning periods. But , that is not the case with the Federer Sampras debate!!..Things haven’t changed dramatically between their regimes.So this debate is far more meaningful than the other two..and that is why it has taken centerstage in most of the sports magazines.

AND THE WINNER IS:

If I were the arbitrator of this debate my words would have gone to ROGER FEDERER..
because of more reasons than one.
Firstly, Federer has got an ice cool temperament which could be challenged only by Mika Hakkinen!..Sampras is a silent customer but he has got a little..just a little..temper which does not go well ..Sampras finds his strength in his serves and his volleys upfront.. But in case of Federer, his precision is as good as Rod Laver’s, his baseline is as commanding as Andre Agassi’s..His volley upfront can match with that of Pat Rafter ..His only problem lies with his serves ..But even there he suddenly surprises his opponents with a serve stolen from Ivanisevic’s book!!. He also has the stamina akin Sampras and the five set player Chang!!..


BIZARRE COMPARISONS :
If you say you had quality players in Agassi, Becker, Krajicek and many others during Pete’s time and today’s Safin,Roddick and Hewitt lack something in them…I’m sorry to say that u have not thought of Bodyline fame Douglas Jordan bowling at Sachin or Ayrton senna driving the high horse powered today’s Ferrari engines..and why do you want to weigh against the Tennis tornadoes??..


DISGRUNTLED QUEST:
Both have not won French open titles..atleast let some clay be left for others to conquer..But you can’t say..The Swiss xpress is still rolling on….

Now,the last reason why I support Federer is of the least significance….That I have sniveled many a times when Agassi lost to Pete has created in me a repugnance against the 14 grandslam winner!!

I strictly adhere to the fact what ADITYA has mentioned in his reply.. the technology used today.. is in no match compared with wat was available before... Can u say that Sachin or Lara or Sourav or someone to that matter... is better than Sir Vivian Richards??? or the gr8 Sir Donald bradman....
See... when history was made by Peter Sampras,it is obvious that it d surely be broken. and Roger did it.... YOUR TOPIC IS WASTE WITHOUT THE COMPARISON OF SAMPARAS AND ROGER... I think u get me.... No comparisons without the PAST GREATS
