Starting a campfire is one thing that any camper should know how to do. A campfire may be needed even if camping in warm weather. Weather can change quickly and often times it gets cold at night no matter where a campsite is. Besides, what would camping be without a campfire?
To start a campfire follow the basic steps below.
1. Try to find a dry and flat location for the campfire. The location should also be a good distance from anything you don't want getting to smoky or too hot like your tent.
2. Create a ring out of some rocks for the fire so that it stays together and doesn't spread out beyond where you want it located.
3. Gather some dry grass or dry leaves.
4. Gather some small twigs, then some larger twigs, then branches, and finally some large logs.
5. Make sure to gather all the burning material before you try to lite the campfire because nothing is worse then getting a fire started and having it go out because you didn't have enough wood.
6. Place the grass and/or leaves in the middle of the campfire ring, then place the small twigs directly on top in a a t-pee formation.
7. Continue placing larger wood on top of the smaller wood in a t-pee formation.
8. Make sure that you have plenty of extra large wood ready to go on the campfire.
9. Lite the campfire by holding a flame to the dry grass and/or leaves and the campfire should handle itself from there on out other than adding more wood of course.
