  Fines Are Not Fine

After a foolish youth that lasted about 55 years I've become a staid older gentleman who sticks to the speed limit, ignores the flashing lights of those pressed for time, but hugs the side of the road so they can pass as soon as it is safe, smiling sweetly at the fingers flashed as a reward for good behaviour.
About a year ago the 60kph [about 40mph] limit was extended another kilometre from the town, advertised with a sign about the size of a small dinner plate.
Yesterday I was chatting and didn't notice it, drove on autopilot and was pulled up for driving at the old limit of 80kph [50mph]...
The fat cop and his young pimply mate couldn’t conceal their satisfaction, they had had a most successful afternoon – several hundred at $250.00 a pop.
Oh dear. There are so many worthwhile things that money could have been spent on; increasing the revenue of the transport department isn’t one of them.

Those things happen. Imagine my embarrassment when I was pulled over one block from the school where I taught! All for my brake lights didn't seem to work (although they did).

Maybe now they can buy a bigger sign.

How frustrating! Do they do a warning period there? I know here, they post signs and stuff to indicate a change will be coming and will start on such-and-such date.

Not usually... and it was, after all about a year ago... I was just not thinking.

Terrorists hiding behind badges. There will be a return here in the states to the "double-nickle," the 55 mph limit. Oh to drive again in Germany, where the only thing that slows you down is the limits of the car you drive.

He sure seemed to be enjoying himself as he wrote the ticket. The last time i ws in germany there wre too many cars on the roads to go fast. Perhaps the fuel shortage will get rid of a few.
