  Pope Downunder

The pope is in Sydney. The security has been far tighter than it ever is for the Queen...What’s he frightened of? Surely as the mouthpiece of an invisible, omnipotent, omniscient god he will be protected? They even tried to make it a crime to criticise the pope and the thousands of befuddled young people who’ve flocked here to refurbish their ‘faith’. Fortunately the courts threw the law out. We’ve had fireworks and a gory replay of a handsome young man being horsewhipped and ‘crucified’... very sexy. A racecourse was taken over for a massed mass, and the streets have been clogged and roads closed, and TV news flooded over this silly little German Ratzinger who would prefer to let people die of aids and venereal disease than use condoms. Who is happy in the knowledge that his condemnation of same-sex-oriented people causes thousands of suicides every year. Who is delighted to know that back street abortions will kill thousands of girls when abortion is illegal, and who doesn’t honestly think he should have to apologise yet again for the young men and women whose lives have been ruined because sex-starved priests, condemned to celibacy, have raped and abused them. This cartoon was in most daily papers.

DON'T TURST THIS GUY. HE IS MEAN. PETTY, SPITEFUL AND MEAN.
And screw the careers of anyone who stood between him and the papacy.
Dozens of lives were runined, careers trashed, and humanity crushed when he was the head of the office that brought us the Inquisition. People who disagreed with him were literally confined to their rooms in the Vatican, banned from teaching the Catholic faith even though they had spent years studying to do just that. His homophobia may have roots in his little German boy circle jerks, though in fairness, that is not specifically a German Boy's game. But he protests too much to not have a blow job in his closet. Represent God? Hah! Doesn't even represent most of the Catholic "simple faithful" I know. The man is completely without shame.

John XXIII? Now THAT was a pope!

As a Catholic, one of my many sticking points with the Church is the infallibility of the Pope. Denying that doctrine amounts to heresy. On top of everything else, I am a heretic too? Woe is me!

Peace, my child; three thousand 'Hail Mary's' and a hefty donation to the church restoration fund will appease the great invisibe lord in the sky. Have a nice day.

He remembers what he was like before he got all the way to the top, and is afraid God will strike him dead in his little Pope-mobile. this guy has such bad Karma, he's coming back as a dirty piece of toilet paper, stuck to someone's shoe.

Indeed! I'm reading the Dark Matter trilogy by Phillip Pullman.... a great read -- sort of hobbit-like but better -- set in some of the infinite number of parrallel universes. the basic premise seems to be that we've been told a lie. when god fought with satan, it was satan who won and the good guy was cast down... but satan pretended he was god and all the churches have been serving him all this time, which accounts for the horrors... An exciting and imaginative read, whatever.

I love the double entendre of "pope downunder." It's even better than "massed mass." Dante, of course, peopled his hell with plenty of popes, so their bizarre and hurtful proclivities have been well known for centuries, yet still millions flock to them. Incredible!

The best T-shirt I saw carried the slogan "The Pope touched me down under"

I have been reading about this in the paper and was wondering how long it would be before you posted about it!
