  Lookin' Back

Reading many blogs, and hearing so many asking themselves some of the same questions that I have asked myself over the years, makes me remember that there will always be "things" to ponder in our lives. What if I had gone to a 4-year college? What if I hadn't gotten married a year after high school? What if......so many questions, without answers. But thinking along these lines, and with the help of an "assignment" of sorts....I have been thinking more and more about my past and my childhood.

The assignment, as I call it, came from an old classmate of mine, who moved away when we were about in 5th grade. He asked any of us who were so inclined, to write a "history" of ourselves, what has happened in our lives since 1970. A couple of days ago, I started writing. I won't post it, at least not right now. It is a work in progress. Yes, there are many parts that I will post later on. I'm not done with it yet, and it is already SIX PAGES long! Whew! The thing that I find very refreshing about it, is that the Slick one loves me enough to want to know everything there is to know about me.....and the things I am remembering are things to share with him. Nothing is too sacred or guarded, they are just things that I haven't thought about in a long time.....like when I was in 5th grade, and a boy kissed me on the cheek at the movies, then ducked. LOL I guess he thought I would hit him. The funnier part of the story is that on Monday morning, he wasn't at school, nor Tuesday or Wednesday....Wednesday was the day we found out he was at home, sick with Mono....ahhhhh - the "kissing disease". All of our friends started teasing me that he had gotten it from me. Baffled me completely how I could have given him mono, when first, I didn't have it and secondly, he only kissed me on the cheek.
It's memories like that....and so many others, that are fun to look at again. It's kind of like discovering that old shoe box in the corner of the closet, the one you haven't looked in for ages, and slowly pulling things out of it and treasuring the memories, or dealing with the pain...whichever the case may be. That is what this adventure is for me...discovery of those boxes in the closet that I haven't looked in lately. They are filled with items to pull out, reminisce about and share with the love of my life...and with friends and with a decent blog. Isn't it fun to say "remember when........." Ah, the simple pleasures of life. Treasured memories among all the unanswered questions!

Wonderful post! Boy the little things I could think of if I really tried! You made me smile with the "mono" thing - can you just imagine the look on your face when you heard that!

It was funny, and I'll never get the image of him 'ducking' after he kissed me, out of my head. I remember thinking "My gosh, what do you think I'm going to do....hit you?" It isn't that these memories are repressed in anyway, they just aren't things you think of very often, unless you set your mind to thinking about them. I have so many more....

The guy who kissed me on the cheek and then ducked. I still LMAO when I think of that, because I can still "see" it. It was truly hilarious!!!

I like to look back over my life. each setback and accomplishment made me who I am today. And I think I finally like that person.

I gotta agree....I definitely like the person I am now a whole lot more. And I am who I am because of where I've been and what I've experienced. Sure, there are things I would have done differently, but then who would I be now. I'll keep me!!

Really good post... makes me think. Makes me regret. Makes me grateful. We all have a history... a story. Looking forward to reading yours while reflecting on my own.

It is fun to look back at old memories....especially those that aren't high up in your normal thought processes. I just posted one earlier today about the time, in 1977 when we bought a stereo. Even though there are things I wish I had done differently, I truly have no 'regrets'. I did the best I could with where I was emotionally and mentally at the time and that's all a gal can ask for!! Thanks for stoppin' by!
