  Cable vs Satellite

Why is that cable companies always have to raise their rates every year or so? Do they feel like that we are stupid enough to pay that rate. You can gripe and complain about it but the rate will never change. You can threaten to quit and they may throw you a bone and give you a promotional offer but the bill still goes up after the promo ends. They are almost as bad as big oil.
Satellite TV, on the other hand, is lower cost. It offers more than digital cable and you can go through the phone company if you want it with internet and phone and get a great bundled rate. Unfortunately you have to lock into a contract if you are a new customer. Plus weather can interfere with your reception (also with cable at the main hub.) or blow your dish out of allignment.
I'm at a dilema. Do I stay with cable or go elsewhere. I guess PD and I will have to decide.
'nuff said.

Hmmm, this is very interesting about cable and satellite... We don't have either because we don't watch that much TV, just news and documentaries (PBS). Sometimes we watch the music shows on PBS, during their pledge drives... that's about it.

We have satellite and it's just fine - no cable option here in the mountains. They raise the rates annually, though, just like cable, and it's not cheap. We don't get internet service through our satellite service, so I can't speak to how that works.

I was fed up with my cable company completely at one point and told them I was switching to dish - LUCKILY the cable company called back and apologized to me because I found out that a dish won't work at my condo because we are facing the wrong direction. Bastids.

TV is a minor part of my life, but my bird watches it all day and into the night. I got the cheapskate version of Time Warmer cable. No movies, no extras. My internet is with AT&T - no bundle, no contract. Contracts are costly and you can't get out. My sis in CA had satTV and it was always a very serious problem with her internet service. It went out about 25 percent of the time. But the porn channels were many if you like those.

I attached alligator clips to a neighbor's cable, but she rarely chose good channels. Outside satellite discs often were stolen. The small dishes smuggled from Jordan are good if you understand Arabic.
My friend discontinued his cable service and then had a pal hook it up again without paying.
Our cable companies are crooks that insist on taking the fees directly from a bank account. Then, they raise the rates.
