New Voice for the Text-to-speech Feature

I just wanted to update users to the fact that I changed the text-to-speech (TTS) voice. I have around a dozen voices I can play with. I decided to go with a "wiseguy". It kinda made me laugh. I will play around with the voices in the weeks to come, so let me know your thoughts. BTW. you can hear the voice by pressing the little play button to the left of every article title when viewing a blog post. Bada-bing, bada-boom!

I have also removed the Zoom-Text feature from the articles. The the Zoom-Text feature is still available in the comment section. Let me know your thoughts. :)

Currently, it is a gray color at 12 point in size with a zoom feature that will take it up to 18 point. options: 1. Get rid of the zoom feature and make the font larger and in black without the zoom feature? 2. Just make the default color black (instead of gray) with the zoom feature? 3. Other Please give your opinions. Just a note....the zoom feature does not seem to work when (and if) I har ...

Greasy Slowdown?

Some of you may have been experiencing a slowdown on Greasy since yesterday. I am trying to track down the problem. It only seems to be an issue when you are logged in...and does not appear to be happening when you are not logged in. In the mean time while I try and track down the problem, there may be some crashes here and there. If you get an error page...just wait a few seconds and try again. That means I just made a bone-head move and broke something. Never fear though, I will do a qui ...

A Couple of New Stats Features

I am just testing a couple of new statistical features here on Greasy. On the left sidebar, just under the "My Friends" section of each blog POST, you will notice a new section with the words "Visitors to this page also liked". This is a 3rd party utility that does this: "...suggests other pages on your blog or that may interest your readers. It does this using a sophisticated algorithm called Collaborative Filtering. For example, a visitor to your blog may view one of your blog entries ab ...

Why Greasy.com?

Why Greasy.com? I have been asked this question many times recently...so, I thought I would explain a bit about the name choice. I purchased greasy.com for about $650 on eBay around 8-9 years ago. This was before the .com names exploded in value. I thought it was a cool name. I have had it since then wondering what to do with it. During those years, I was quite busy with other projects...plus, I just never really came up with anything fun. A couple of years back John Heder and his brothers ...

Add Friend & Subscribe Changes

I have made some minor changes to the blog system. You can now "Add Friend", "Send Message", "Subscribe, and "Tell a Friend" from the menu at the top. The good news is that you will not be able to add yourself as a friend...and it will indicate if a user is already added. Also, the subscription button will change if you are already subscribed to the user.

More Greasy Information

There are a few things you may no know about the Greasy platform that may be useful. 1. If you hover over one of the avatars (pictures) on the front page, it will display the users username and time they were last seen on Greasy. UPDATE! Usernames are now encoded into the user avatar when uploaded. See my next post. 2. While logged in, if the user is chatting, the avatar will be slightly smaller with a flashing green bar to the right of their picture. On image hover, it will also display t ...

I added a few Quick HTML Hints to the right of the "New Article" body box. This should help a bit when trying to fancy up your blog posts. I am going to add a few more. I was just so excited to post I just couldn't wait. :) Bold Text Italic Text Underline Text Small Text Font Color Red Link to Site

Text to Speech is Live!

TTS (text-to-speech) is live on Greasy. The little play button next to the article title should now read the blog post when pressed. Remember, this is just a beta version of the processing and may sound a little robotic, etc. This implementation may add a few seconds to the page display when viewing a post. We are going to change that in a day or so. We are also going to be adding different voice selections. Please give me your comments or suggestions regarding this feature.
