  Big Decision

Ted and I are wrestling with a big decision. My son and his wife and children want us to move into their neighborhood, in Midwest City. We know a lot of people there and the proximity to TAFB is a big plus since Ted is disabled and we get to use the club, the golf course and all the rest of the good stuff. Also, it will be wonderful to be close to Bob and Ellie and the children.

However, we love the farm and the freedom and space it affords us. I am not too worried about falling real estate prices as whatever we buy will be priced cheaper also. We are worried about selling it and the lack of mortgage money available to a prospective buyer. We know that it will take a while to sell. In the meantime a big garage sale is on the agenda. We are trying to declutter. I am a packrat and so is Ted.

One of my best friends is coming for lunch tomorrow. She doesn't eat breakfast so she is always ravenously hungry by eleven. I am having a chicken casserole with a vegetable dish of squash and sweet red peppers sauteed in olive oil
I have fresh rosemary to sprinkle on top. We will probably have fudge for dessert or orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream. I will make cornbread too as she loves it.

Surely there is some middle ground between staying on your farm and moving into the city! That is a major shift in your surroundings! Maybe there is a middle sized village closer to the city, that has a hospital and a few amenities that will make you comfortable, like a good library, a farmers market with fresh vegetables and fruit, think long and hard about moving to the city. Think about what you will need in ten years, that will help you decide. Being closer to the people you love is a good thing, and so is being someplace you want to live. I'll be praying that you find your path.

I think it's a good idea to put it on the market and see what happens. You can afford to be picky about the buyer's qualifications and your asking price. I agree that the time to make the move might be while you are still feeling spry enough for it. Maybe there is a place where you would be moving that has a big enough lot or on a greenbelt that you feel you are almost in the country. Getting away from being tied down by farm animals to the 'club' life would be very liberating for you and Ted.

Well, we are going to put a toe in the water and see what happens. I have never been good at selling anything but I can always buy right. Loved your auction finds.

Know the situation. People wonder why I don't downsize. But I can't bear to leave my home. I'm still young and able enough to handle all the chores. You have a tough decision to make.

Glad you are back Randy. I have missed you. Are you stiff and sore from your labors?

Your quandary is one we'll face sooner or later. Why do all coins have to have two sides???

I guess you just have to weigh the pros and cons and do the best you can but it is heart wrenching to leave someplace you love.

But surely you will work something out.

I think we will go ahead and put the place up for sale. I know it will take a long time to sell.

Sounds lovely! I would be like you. I live on a 55 acre farm and enjoy the peace of country living as well as the privacy. Hubby would have to really entice me to move from my little piece of paradise.

I love the land and the creeks and trees and meadows but we are going to have to do it sooner or later and now while we feel well seems to be the best time.

I like change but Ted fights it like a tiger. We will see.

Your lunch sounds so good!! I hope you and Ted make the best decision over all. I was raised in the country and like that over the city but, we do live in the city so to speak even though it is in the suburbs everything is growing so fast around here. We are pack-rats too and have been un-cluttering around here too.

Wow that is true. There are storms around but, nothing real severe yet. We are under a tornado watch. How is it there?

Gas prices are a factor too. It is a 40 mile roundtrip to go the store. Are the storms bad your way?
