  Compromise and Clutter

Ted and I both have the pack rat gene and I am thinking of all the things I want to get rid of and all the things he is desperately clinging to. He gets indignant when I wish to get rid of his Samauria Swords or other junk he lovingly holds on to and I am ruthless about some of the things that I want to auction off.

To top it all off there is a garage full of stuff that didn't sell at an estate sale in the house we have bid on and he wants all that too. If we get it, we will pick through it and let the kids pick through it and then call the Salvation Army but there are some good things in there.
We will probably have a humoungous fight about what he wants to keep and end up compromising.

Have you ever thought about life just being one giant compromise? We don't go through this world getting our own way all the time and it would probably be disastrous if we did. I have made some really poor choices and some good ones and learned to live with them all.

I've moved 12 times in 2 years! What I need has been simplified by how many times I care to move it! Rain and creatures have had a blast going thru it as well! If I could only find my make-up!!!

Here's a trick I used on my mother while she was in Florida. I took things out from the bottom of the piles and left the top layers. She hasn't said anything so I'm certain she hasn't noticed. I'm planning some really drastic measures next winter.

You know those pieces of appliances, and stuff that
gets broken off that you find under the sofa? Ed keeps them
because he will eventually discover what they have broken
off of and fix it. When I traveled to New York had me
run all around the city to find the one perfect product
that he could use to restore our gold leaf frames that our
paintings are in. That was 4 years ago and the product is
still on the shelf. Meanwhile, we have a chest full
of designer dress shirts still in the store plastic that he wil
never wear because he no longer goes to an "uptown"
office but that he won't get rid of.

Some of these comments made me laugh out loud. I am a terrible packrat too.

I am bad but Ted is worse. We can always think that some day we are going to need that ball of string or we are going to keep that broken dish for a mosaic we are making.

Storage building in the new house yard? I know what you mean about compromises, especially when it comes to someone hanging onto their precious 'stuff' when it cuts into the space where you'd put your own precious stuff.

You hit the nail on the head. I just have to have the space for my stuff.
However I am determined to battle some of the clutter out. We have already had it over a broken sterio that he is sure he can fix. But you know Ted, he is a sweet guy and you can't get mad at him.

Tell Ted to go for a walk and then you can raped the house
throw out anything before he get back. You have to move fast.
Clutter here is which I have and just like to throw it out
the window.Get those bags fill it up and call them to come
and get it.Bag in a Dumpster. They will even take your piano

I think we are going to have to have an auction. I can't envision taking a tractor, implements and a concrete mixer with us.

Yeah, but it is girl stuff.

Perhaps Ted wants the house for the stuff in the garage...

I am sure he does. I could hardly tear him away from a Japanese musical instrument that he found out there. I had my eye on some very old lace...

Compromise is key, although I think it would be sweet to always get my own way!

It would be nice but I'll bet R. is as easy to get along with as Ted is.

My 2nd bedroom has become some how a catch all storage room that I am now afraid to go into.

If we get that house, I will be afraid to go in the garage. A double garage full of the bits and pieces of two lives.
