  Insanity in My World

Life is great. With the aid of Roundup and mulch, I think the weeds in the flower bed are vanquished. I put layers of newspapers down and soaked them and then mulched after I sprayed all the weeds. I only lost a few flowers from the errant spray of weedkiller.

That is not what I wanted to discuss, however. 911 is coming to the country and we will soon have it. It has necessitated house numbers. Since everything was changing, we decided to give up our P. O. Box and change to rural delivery. This is hard for me to believe. Instead of merely putting my mail out for the rural carrier, they send it to Shawnee and then return it to me. This in a one man Post Office in a tiny little town. They know us "but them are the rules",. It is not cost effective, it is not efficient and not timely delivery. We have had to fill out three different cards. One for letters, one for parcels and one to confirm our change of address.

Could this be why postage has become so expensive?

well at least you'll have 911. That's the most important thing. I do see why you feel the way you feel about it though. It's strange!

It is irritating to say the least. We have so much mail lost, especially hubby's mail relating to his business.

We have a lot of lost mail too. So do all my neighbors and sometimes it is vitally important.

I don't like delivery to the house, too many people can just drive by and pick it out of your box...I still keep my PO Box...

We keep a p. o. box for checks in Shawnee, which is very strange sounding. but it works for us. The magazines and other stuff are not that important.

Since we are home a lot of the time, I don't worry about someone getting the mail out of the box, but it is a different story when you are gone every day.

The postal service becomes more expensive as we speak! Tomorrow we get another rate increase. At the same time, it becomes less effecient and slower every day. If I want to be sure something arrives in a timely manner, I use UPS or FED EX. I no longer believe the postal service when it promises next day or two-day delivery. It has failed me one too many times.

I don't send a lot of package except to Russia to Ellie's parents. Just a few little things cost over thirty dollars to send. They aren't able to get aspirin, medicine for his prostate, Naproxen Sodium for their arthritis and many other things. to the P. O.

I am all for residences and businesses having their addresses very visible from the street--finding addresses down here are a nightmare!!
Funny, I seem to be the only one on earth who doesn't have a problem with the PO all these years--always get my mail delivered in a reasonable time and have it delivered to others the same way--guess I am on the side of the PO angels!!!

You are indeed a lucky person to have the Post Office angels on your side.

You have defined the postal service: "not cost effective, not efficient and not timely delivery." All the hikes in stamp prices have failed to provide better service. THREE CHEERS FOR E-MAIL!!

Yes, and the telephone. Now that long distance rates are so low, you can accomplish a lot on the phone. Guess I am just old fashioned but I would rather talk to a person.

yep,the day is the 12th.For the postage rate.
I bought a few of the forever stamps to save a few pennies
I had to put my house number more visible so that in case we
need 911 they can see the number.Have not done this so far.

Work on your house number, it might save a life. I wish I had bought more forever stamps.
