I don't watch a lot of movies and it was with a real sense of anticipation that I checked out PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Having seen the stage play twice, once in Dallas when it first went on tour, and later in Oklahoma City, I knew that I loved the music.

Gerald Butler was the Phantom and I was terribly disappointed in him. To my untrained ear, his voice sounded thin and limit ed. Perhaps I just loved Michael Crawford too much. His Listen to the music of the night was incredible.

However, Rex and China hated the whole thing and took refuge together in the office. The booming sound of the orchestra evidently hurt their ears. Do you suppose they could become critics? If Hobbes can blog, surely they can.

It wasn't the best nor the worst of Broadway to Hollywood adaptations but certainly worth a one time see.
I saw the production on Broadway and though I enjoyed it seeing it was a one time thing for me so skipped the tours when it played here in South Florida.
I do play the Original Broadway cast album a lot.
By the way Andrew Lloyd Weber is the 'mentor' on American Idol tonight and tomorrow--wonder if any of them will have the guts to tackle "Music of the Night".

Their musical taste leaves a lot to be desired. I think they prefer elevator music.

I can remember when the stage play came to Denver and everyone would talk about the big chandelier was hanging right over them. A shortened version of Phantom is playing at the Venetian in Las Vegas on a fairly permanent basis. They constructed a new theater for it, and there is a gift shop, but I haven't been, and haven't bought any gifts. If they were handing out free tickets to gamblers, we might have gone.

I loved it for the music but my favorite musical play of all time was Big River. I loved Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn but kids not can't seem to relate to those books.

I haven't seen it... Haven't seen much for quite awhile! And, surely, they can!!! (be critics)

Of Course they can be critics! Even though their opinions are not necessarily mine.

Wonderful, wasn't it. I checked it out at the library so I know it was old.

I have watched several versions of the movie, dating way back. My son saw the stage production and said that it was fabulous! You are right--the music is wonderful.

The stage production was breathtaking. We were so high up on the bleachers that I couldn't see very well in Dallas but had better seats in Oklahoma City.

I've never seen Phantom of the Opera.

Get the movie if you can. Even t hough it isn't as good as the stage production, the music shouldn't be missed.
