  Sewing and Movies and Books

I have been hemming and ironing since noon. I watched Great
Balls of Fire while I sewed. The music made me want to get up and dance but it made my hateful chore go swiftly.

Laura left Eat Love Pray by Elizabeth Gilbert and I am really enjoying it. I had read Stern Men and thought it to be wonderful but I didn't realize she was the author. We went to town this morning and went by the library. I got a book called, "The Age of American Unreason" by Susan Jacoby, "Almost Noon" by Alice Seebold, Wild Nights by Joyce Carol Oates and "Souvenir" by Therese Fowler.
I have browsed a little in the Susan Jacoby book and I expected her to be a middle aged and dowdy historian. Wow was I ever mistaken. She is young and gorgeous. How did she ever get so smart so y oung? I was forty before I had a lick of sense.

Thank goodness there is nothing on the agenda tomorrow and I can get caught up reading blogs. See you then. Jeri

If rock and roll isn't fashionable, then we'll be unfashionable together, Jeri. I love it too. As for mending and hemming - I stuff mine in a pillowcase. I figure if I get enough saved up, I'll be able to stuff a mattress cover and won't need to buy another one. I guess if I gave up quilting, I'd find time to mend but that's just not gonna happen.

Even petites are too long for me and your right, it is a bummer.

Glad to hear you were serious about that hemming. I always tell myself I'll take something up but never get around to it, so whatever I buy has to fit right out of the sack.

I like when Jerry Lee married his young cousin.

Jerry Lee Lewis made it go faster.

sewing.Jimmy Swaggert am I missing something
here.

Confusing? As you probably know Jerry Lee Lewis, Micky Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert are cousins, which probably explains why Jimmy Swaggert so frequently falls from grace.

You remind me of the stack of unread books sitting a few feet away that I need to work on. Wish I wasn't such a slow reader.

It is like a security blanket to have books to read...a defense against boredom.

I have a drawer full of Ed's stuff I have promised to mend --
seams and buttons and stuff. They have been there a while.
I tried to read Joyce Carol Oates but I couldn't find the plot
and she never got to the point. I will look for Susan Jacoby
next time I am at the library. I am always late to the
common sense party -- I think I was 60 before I "got" it.
I have just caught up on all the unread blogs I subscribe to
-- it took all week. So enjoy your laid back time, dear Jeri.
xx, T.

Joyce Carol Oates can be wierd. This book is about famous men and I haven't even peeked at the inside. I highly recomend the Elizabeth Gilbert book that Laura left and I think that "The Age of American Unreason" will be great.

Glad you got through your ironing with some help from TV!

I know it isn't fashionable to love rock and roll and Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis but I always did and I still do. I always thought it was fascinating to think of the three cousins, Jerry Lee, Micky Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert growing up together. My friend, June, is from one of those musical families and I love being around them when they are playing and singing.
