  How to Be a Poet.

There is no single"right"way to compose a poem, here are
some tips from the U.S.Poet Laureate.
Charles Simic:
Don't tell the readers what they all ready know about life.
Don't assume your're the only one in the world who suffers.
Some of the greatest poems in the language are sonnets and
poems not many lines longer than that,so don't overwrite.

The use of images, similes and metaphors make poem concise.
Close your eyes and let your imagination tell you what
to do.
Say the words you are writing aloud and let your ears

decide what word come next.
Remember that what you are writing is a draft that will
need additional tinkering-perhaps for many months, even
years,of tinkering.

I am totally useless at writing poetry! My mum was pretty good at it - Lynnette is able to rhyme a little too - it's harder than actually writing a story/essay I think

I want my poetry to be vivid, bring images to a person's mind. I want to strike a common chord, and I want to invoke feelings when a person reads my poetry.

cool deal. I always sucked at poems, except those 5 liners. I did pretty good at those!
