  Who Do We Blame?

Many of you will remember this commercial from the 70's...

Living in Rural SD has it’s Pro’s and Con’s – We own a beautiful farm and for the past 7 years we have been re-landscaping. (Our land)
Each year we plant trees and seed areas that still have no grass. It has been a major undertaking but one that has brought us joy and a sense of peace.
Enjoying a cup of coffee while we watch the sunrise is a wonderful way to start the day… and sometimes we end it the same way –

One of the problems many/most of us face in the country is litter.

Half empty bags and containers from fast food restaurants, beer and pop cans, and cigarette butts would top the list… however there are those who dump their old mattresses, couches and broken appliances in the ditches. WHY they are unable to take these items to a landfill/dump is beyond me – The County is wonderful about getting these bigger items picked up, but the landowners are responsible for the rest.

During our daily Spring walks my boys and I will take large trash bags with us and pick up what we can. Sometimes we don’t make it ¼ of a mile before we have filled a bag.

It wouldn’t help to blame this problem on today’s youth as I know adults my age who carelessly whip a pop can out the window (a tongue lashing follows, believe me)

So whom do we blame it on? And how do we clean it up? **sigh**

***********************************************************

Now… my thoughts on IDOL –

I wont say I was surprised to see Chickezie go, I never thought he could win. But I was bummed that he was ousted before Kristy. He has a beautiful voice and I feel he could have easily stayed in a few more weeks.

In Kristy’s defense, she did indeed perform well (For the 1st time) – But I really don’t know if it was her singing OR her song choice that impressed me… I LOVE Lee Greenwoods “Proud to be an American” song and I think it was a smart move on her part to perform it…

Next week Dolly Parton will be mentoring!! Awesome!!!

Gem~

I don't know why people want to litter. We live on the corner on our street and find beer cans, coke cans, potato chip bags. It is just crazy. I like Kristy Lee Cook. She did great that night and did wonderful the other night singing "Coat Of Many Colors". I like Dolly! She is a sweetie.

Roadside trash and litter irritates the hell out of me. I pick up along my county road. Glad somebody else does too. Thanks!

That sounds like our place: endless tree planting, grass seeding and never ending chores! Luckily, we don't get much garbage.

I love having my morning coffee on the patio. There can be nothing more peaceful than being in the country and watching a beautiful clear sunrise.

Amen to that!

There was a guy down the road who used to pick up trash the way you do. One day a cop saw him leaving a full black bag along the road (got to heavy maybe) and gave him a summons for littering. Unbelievable!

Yup, but as with most news stories, I never heard the final outcome.

You have got to be kidding!? Did he fight it??
reply by greeneyedgemini on Mar 28, 2008 12:56 PM ()
I knew he'd go early, but I didn't think he'd go that early. I figured Kristy would go before him. I'll be happy when she is gone!

You and me both!!

we also live out in the country and there is trash everywhere. I frequently have to pick up beer cans and liquor bottles from my front yard. it is a sad thing to see. why is it easier to throw things out the window as you are driving, then to just take it home and put it in the trash? I have a walmart bag in one of my trees, I can't reach it to get it down. It blew there from someone's yard.

We had a wal-mart bag high up in one of our trees that was there for almost 6 months - It took a HUGE wind storm to blow that damn thing off!

I think it was Kristy's song choice, I didn't think she was that great. I thought Chickezie sang WONDERFULLY on his exit song. So sad to see him go! I thought the other girl that was on stage with him shoulda gone instead.
comment by kristilyn3 on Mar 27, 2008 7:32 AM ()
I think it was her song choice too! It was the only week she wasn't in the bottom 2
