  4 Eyes ...

Well I guess it was bound to happen… And putting it off didn’t make it go away – (Well it works for some things...)

For over a year I have suffered daily headaches and found that reading was even getting tough. I starting holding paper’s/books further and further from my eyes and wondered why reading was starting to make me dizzy…

A few months ago I bought a pair of reading glasses from the pharmacy, and while they did indeed help, the headaches remained.

So finally… I made an appointment to see an Optometrist.
After eye charts, poking, prodding, numbing my eyeballs (umm ewww) and various other tests… he informed me that I was farsighted. (Ya think)?

My left eye is worse and has a stigmatism (Still not really sure what that means, but I’m not dying so I guess I’ll figure it out as I go) –

Then it was off to pick out frames. Marc was with me and had the time of his life watching me try all these different frames. Feelings of kicking him entered my mind only a time or two but I forgave him when he told me I was sexy in the pair I picked… (No I didn’t believe him, but the thought was there…) Not to mention they were the most expensive and he didn’t even blink! (No pun intended)

So my bifocals (minus that little line in the lenses) are ordered and should be here next week .
After all this the Doc comes out and informs me that while this prescription should be good for a few years, I was coming up on 40 and my eyesight would only worsen with age… (Wondering if I should burn him a copy of the Secret…)

So that’s it – You can now officially call me 4 eyes!

Happy Friday fellow greasers!

Gem~

At least your options for specs have improved! They are very stylish now!

Oh I agree!! We have great insurance that let us pick any frames - Some insurances only let you have a choice of a few ugly ones!

Thanks!

Four eyes!

If you're like me your headaches will go away when you get your glasses. Glad you're taking care of your eyes!

Doc is right, believe me! I've worn contacts since I was 15!

and your eyesight has only gotten worse? Do I go in every year like a physical or just if I notice a difference? I should have asked him that but forgot... It's the age thing!

Specs will bring out your green eyes, don't the think? And you'll look smarter!

I have been a four-eye since 3rd grade. Although, I enjoyed contact lenses from my mid-twenties until my early fifties. Now, I am back to glasses. I found I have cataracts and the contacts irritated my eyes. I do miss having contacts and I hate glasses. But... at the age of 60.. glasses will probably be part of my life from here on out.

I don't think I would like contacts - It's that having to put things in my eyes that bother me....
Thanks Annie

BJ, don't feel bad. My hubby wears TRIFOCALS! I have been wearing glasses since I was 9 due to being nearsighted. I got bifocals about 15 years ago and had no trouble adjusting to them. Most of the time I wear contacts and use the cheap reading glasses for close-up and computer work. Take Angie's advice and have them tinted....mine are tinted light amber to cut the glare.

I love love LOVE all this great advice! Thanks!

Sorry to your husband for Trifocals!
reply by greeneyedgemini on Apr 5, 2008 12:20 PM ()
Be sure to have your lens tinted; mine are pink. The tint cuts the glare. Yes, you will have to get used to the bifocals, but it doesn't take long.

I know how ya feel, Gem. I've been needing bi-focals for a coupla years now but I've either been too vain or too broke to get 'em. I priced some at the optometry shop at Wally World and I'm saving my pennies. Until then I follow yer example and its reading glasses from the Dollar Store for me.

yer the dang print is too close to the paper pal

I hate to admit that vain is a part of it - But to lose the headaches it's worth it -
My Doc says the cheap $ store ones will only help ya for so long - Hope to see you get yours soon!!
Thanks Bugg!

Don't feel bad. I had to go to bifocals this year too but, I made it to 46 years old before I had to. I have been wearing glasses since I was 22 years old. Changed to wearing contacts about 4 years ago. But this visit with the eye doctor he told me that I needed glasses too. And that I was going to need the bifocals. He has been telling me that I needed bifocals since I turned 40 but managed to escape them until now. My hubby and I both have astigmatism too. We used to be nearsighted but, as we have gotten older it has changed to being farsighted. I do understand about trying to read things and the reading glasses not helping. Getting used to my bifocals wasn't too bad. I still wear contacts so, I don't wear my glasses all of the time.

I was told I would have a problem tripping as I looked down and everything grew larger! Yikes - Hope I don't make an idiot of myself in the first few weeks -
Thanks Jenn!

He was probably telling you the truth when he said you looked sexy! My hubby thinks I look sexy in my glasses!I wear bifocals to read and use the computer; it sure beats squinting and vaguely seeing!Your graphics are adorable!
comment by angiedw on Apr 4, 2008 2:01 PM ()
Thanks! You honestly made me feel better!!

I am at a computer 10+ hours a day, so I will also be wearing them most of them time as well - He told me for the first 2 weeks I would be falling all over the place, is this true??
