  Another Day in Paradise

I do not deserve this. Today is Mother’s Day, and it is absolutely gorgeous outside. 75 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky with a slight breeze blowing.
Perfect.
This morning, I woke up at 6 and fed the horses. Then, Dixie and I went out for our daily three-mile run. We weren’t two hundred yards from our driveway when we encountered a beautiful, curious, almost tame doe out in the middle of the street, right in front of Ron Glendenning’s south pasture.
When Mary woke up about eight-thirty, I gave her the Mother’s Day card and the woman’s version of my Polar Heart Rate Monitor, (that I use on my daily runs). She was thrilled. (She is SO unassuming! She appreciates everything and takes NOTHING for granted!)
After the breakfast of bacon and eggs that I cooked, we went out on a two-and-a-half hour trail ride, she on her beloved Hoo Horse, and me and on my beautiful Mariah. The ride was like a meditation. Peaceful and fun.
After galloping, trotting and walking for an hour, we dismounted by a river, and sat, watching the current flow past by our feet. Then, we climbed back on our mounts, and rode back home.
Our sons and our daughter called Mary today to wish her a happy day.
We got back at the house around 1 p.m., and I made the ultimate sacrifice and called my mother. (Those of you who know me from my Blogster.com days know that I am not enamored with my mother. She abused me when I was a kid, beating me unmercifully mentally and physically.) However, I called her and spoke to her for about ten minutes, wishing her a happy Mother's Day. I wasn’t a hypocrite though; I never told her that I loved her.
I don’t.
And it took me YEARS of counseling to come to terms with that, but I finally did, and I am at peace with it.
After the trail ride, Mary and I sat out in the sun in our front yard while Dixie ran around us, happily carrying a stick in her mouth. We sat there, holding hands, talking and watching our horses contently eating in the eastern pasture.
All of this is in my life, and I have a part in a play too! (Tech week is this week. Our first technical rehearsal is tonight. Opening night is this coming Friday.) Life just doesn’t get any better than this!
Rehearsal tonight is at 6:30 with great friends and my wonderful wife.
What an idyllic life I have!!!!
As I said, I KNOW that don’t deserve it, but I will happily take it and be thankful for it.

Life is good. ..more than good.

That I do, Angie! I'm serious when I say that I can't think of anybody in the world with whom I'd like to trade places.

I truly love my life. (I'm glad you don't have to DESERVE something in order to get it!) And yesterday on the Northeastern coast of North America, it was a beautiful, warm, sunny day.
Riding my palomino next to the beautiful woman that I love all afternoon, and then going to play rehearsal for the evening - life just doesn't GET better than that!

What a lovely time you planned for Mary! So sweet! And kind of you to call your mother despite what she did to you. You turned out to be a very kind person instead of a bitter one. She should be proud of you. And your play - my goodness, Jim! Your life is indeed full and good.
