The Vanity
Abandoning her position in front of the tall mirror
No longer adorned in the beautiful evening gown
Having set aside the delicate flower lined hat
She now spends her time at her mother's vanity
She brushes her beautifully long and wavy hair
While smiling warmly and lovingly remembering
The many precious and cherished memories
Those times spent talking and laughing with her mother
As she brushes the soft pastel lipstick upon her lips
She thinks of those lessons which have been brushed
Upon the surface of her young and tender heart
Lessons of love, forbearance, truth, and honesty
Gently applying the mascara upon her full lashes
She ponders the one deep seated lesson she has learned
The truth that one sees best with the eyes of the heart
Through the spectacles of compassion and understanding
She sits back and tussles her hair as she admires herself
She is independent, having grown from many lessons
Her eyes survey everything surrounding her mother's vanity
While her heart slowly absorbs the beauty of her mother
She leans forward in the chair and stares into a new mirror
This new mirror holds its own set of lessons to be applied
The tools which her mother now uses to lovingly teach her
Have become more specific and of a deeper value
