My elderly ukrainian grandfather has quite an assortment of illnesses and lately, the hardest one for us to deal with is his ever increasing dementia. He isn't in a wheelchair permanantly yet, but he does regularly use both his walker and his wheelchair. My grandmother cares for him fulltime and it's really hard on her. He's very stubborn and sometimes he just won't move. I don't see him too much, because he and my grandmother live outside of the city, but they're here right now.
When I got home today, my mom and grandmother were having the hardest time getting him out of bed after a nap. They tried suggesting card games, supper (it was after 6pm), but nothing worked. Finally, my mom remembered to try garlic. It worked!
Gedo loves peeling garlic. When nothing motivates him and he feels useless, he can still peel garlic. He's good at it, too. He'll just sit there for hours peeling away at a clove. And when that one's done, he'll peel another. Needless to say, the house can get quite smelly at times.
So, now we have two cloves worth of peeled garlic in ziplock bags. Anyone want some?
