I'm totally freaked out.
I checked on the mare at 11pm, 3am and 6am. At 6am there was a wet foal in with her!
It's a boy. He's healthy, but has a few minor issues that will probably work themselves out. Mare came through the delivery fine, but the stupid me, fed her a bucket of not quite soaked enough beet pellets, and she choked on them. Emergency vet call! Vet cleared out the blockage. It was a bad one.
Then a few hours later, mare is coughing, shivering and not looking happy. UGH! Not again! I put a blanket on her, and phoned the vet again. Vet advised painkillers and wait and see, and it looks like she's okay now.
The foal is a very frisky little guy. If you touch his rear end, he crow hops and kicks. His whithers (shoulders) come just past my knee, and his head to about my waist.
I'm scared out of my mind, and thank dog this is my first and last foal because I don't think I could survive another of these. Just to make it more fun, it's been raining for days, and it's going to rain for more days. Mud, mud, everywhere! Mare and foal will be staying in their small but dry shelter for awhile.
