  Those Fleeting Summer Days ...

It's very rare that we manage to be at the cabin on a good HOT day. Hot enough to actually swim in this frigid mountain lake.

Sunday was one of those rare days. The 6 of us went down to the beach. Me, DH, the kids Eric & Leah, and BIL and SIL. I took along the little sit-on kayak that I bought myself last year.

My winter of yoga/pilates class twice a week paid off when it came to kayaking. This little 8 foot kayak takes a fair bit of core strength to hold it straight in the water. I had a great time.

Then 6 year old Eric wanted to try it.

He did amazingly well! So well that he wanted to go farther out than I was willing to. I'm about 10 steps from being over my head in this picture. So I put on my life jacket, held on to the front of the kayak, and out into the deep water we went.

It was so much fun! The crazy thing is that I tend to be scared of deep water, but felt absolutely no fear as I swum in water way over my head.

The cold lake soothed the muscles I worked hard paddling, and I didn't even have sore shoulders the next day. I did however shiver for a good hour after getting out of the water!

I love the water, but sink like a stone when I try to swim (even after swimming lessons) so I love life jackets. Looks like a great time and the water looks wonderful

I'm not a water person (can swim and all that, but...). Am proud of your efforts and glad you had fun!

Looks like a great place. The lake where I usually float my inflatable is behind a damn, and the water is on the warm side.

It's a dammed lake too, but the water comes right off the Rocky mountains so it never really warms up. It's also a moody lake - storms can come up suddenly and make the water dangerous. One of the storms was even featured on the TV show "Storm Warning". Several boats were blown up against the rocks beside the dam.
