It hasn't been too bad so far.
Eric is at daycamp this week. It's on a lake, so he's thrilled to be playing on the beach everyday. That and there is a candy store! I`m a little pissed though. I didn`t put him in last year because it`s a catholic camp. But next door neighbour girl goes there. They aren`t supposed to be teaching anything, but Eric still came home full of religious questions. (arrgghh!) I have to tell myself that I can straighten him out after, it`s relatively cheap for a good quality camp, and it`s like a 7 minute drive away. I can handle this for a week.
Leah and I are going to attempt the Stampede tomorrow. It's kid's day, so it's free to get in until 9am, and you get a breakfast and a stage show. (You and 50,000 other screaming kids...). Oh fun. We will seek refuge in the barn and at the art displays. Luckily, DH`s grandma lives about 3 blocks away from the grounds, so we can park there and walk over the BIG hill, then down again. That`s the part that has me worried the most. I`ll just have to call it exercise if I have to carry both a backpack full of provisions, and a 38lb preschooler up and down that hill.
Most of my time has been spent gardening and weeding, and playing with animals. The garden hasn`t done the greatest this year. After I planted it, it rained nearly constantly for 4 weeks, and was cold. Then it was hot and dry. The corn seed rotted, and I had to replant. And only a few of those seeds have actually sprouted. Most of the raspberry canes died off this winter, so I don`t think I`ll have much of a crop. About a third of my strawberries also died, I`m still getting about a dozen strawberries a day. Everything else is doing well - rhubarb, peas, carrots, chives, cilantro, dill, onions, garlic, asparagus, beets, green and yellow beans, yellow zucchini, potato, chamomile, mint, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, apples, crabapples, red current, saskatoon, etc.
I discovered something that the kids really enjoy - books on CD that we can listen to in the van. I get them from the library, and we have listened to Bridge to Tarabititha (sp), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we are still working on James and the Giant Peach. It`s really handy for those long drives, or when you get caught in traffic.
Oh, and it`s been my birthday. I`m 25. Again. My parents took us (also Eric`s birthday) to a chinese buffet. Oh yummy! They gave me money. DH gave me two books (that I ordered), and money. Huh. The kids gave me a bag of chips and a chocolate bar. I keep telling DH NOT TO BUY ME JUNK FOOD. But dammit, he does it anyway. I ate it and now I feel like a bloated cow. The birthday from the inlaws comes on Sunday. That is always interesting. If you give them an exact list of what you want, complete with part numbers, they can still manage to give you something totally useless and against your beliefs. LOL!
