  Thrift Score

JanetK mentioned the book Thrift Score to me, so I got it from the library.

It's an interesting books about a thrift store loving woman. I think she is crazy though! I shop at thrift stores to get quality, useful items for much less than buying new. The author seems to use thrift stores as entertainment and buys absolute junk! She goes on and on about printed polyester shirts, and collecting them! Seriously? Collecting shirts?? LOL.

It was a good read though. Especially the parts about thrift stores pricing items too high. Sometimes for more than it currently costs new. She gives an example of a Hawaiian shirt priced at $50! They, at the store, thought Hawaiian shirts were in high demand, therefore the high price. The author eventually bought the shirt, once it was marked down to $3.50 (or something like that), and was on for half price. She was pleased with herself, but I was thinking, is someone actually going to wear that shirt? Or was it just a trophy to her?

Solitaire(Randy) had mentioned the book "The World Without Us", and I got it today! It had like 26 holds on it, and I didn't think I'd ever get it. I have a delicious stack of books to read through this week.

It's about how nature would take back the world (focusing mainly on New York City), if all the people disappeared. I've just started it.

I love to read. What's the new one about? It sounds like a hot one.

Sounds like a fun book. I love thrift stores, but like the author, I'm sometimes guilty of buying stuff I'll rarely wear only because it's a great deal and I know how much it'd cost new.

I've been guilty of that too... I got a beautiful black suede jacket for like $3, but I can't quite figure out when I'll be wearing it... But at that cheap, I'd still make a profit if I take it to the consignment store.

An addiction to worthless desire? She does sound just a bit unusual...

It would be interesting to see her house... I wonder if she is a hoarder.
