  Disappointed Immigration Lawyer

Yehaw!!! Yeah, that's Oklahoman for "Hooray". I'm gonna save 250 dollars this year. I just found out that my immigration lawyer has been lying to me for four years now. She's the one who filed (past tense) my papers to acquire the necessary permits to live in Mexico and do what I do here. Every year meant a renewal at her current fee of 250 dollars PLUS expenses. She had me convinced that it could only be done in Mexico City (four hours away from here) and that only a lawyer could do it.

I found out today that I can file the paperwork myself in Guadalajara (only an hour away and a place I really enjoy visiting). The fee? Twenty-five dollars. That's it.

Besides the fact that this "lawyer" could never be reached and refused to return any of my attempts at communication unless it was the month preceding the expiration of my visa, she repeatedly misrepresented the facts concerning the process of applying for this permit and the subsequent extensions. She could not or would not answer any of my questions concerning which rights and privileges this particular permit affords me. On more than one occasion, I desperately needed her help, only to be completely ignored (unless, of course, it was the month of May, at which time she became the most obliging solicitor the bar has ever seen).

Well, today, I get my "revenge". She's all pumped up to file my papers again this year. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to say to her and whether or not it's worth it to go into everything I just wrote in the previous paragraph. I don't want to be mean (pastors aren't allowed), however, I would like to express to her my dissatisfaction concerning her lack of professionalism. I'm sure I'll come up with something. For now, I'm just mentally spending 250 dollars on something I enjoy.

Like I said earlier....Yehaw!!!

This one's going under shopping, since that's probably what I'll do with my money. LOL

Tell us more about your ministry. What town are you in? I also loved Guadalajura. It is a beautiful city or was about 20 years ago. Nena

When I finished my divorce I owed my "lawyer' about $2000 more (of a total of almost $24,000). He tried to convince me to reopen and sue my ex for the value of the Jaguar I had to give her (a 1986 converted to Chevy V-8 black four-door Vanden Plas.) I suddenly realized that he hadn't quite paid off his yacht, and I said, "No."

I wonder what I paid off for her.

There must be a bar ass'n with whom you can file a complaint. It may not amount to much but at least it'll aggravate her. "A lawyer with a briefcase can steal more than a hundred men with guns." Don Corleone in "The Godfather."
