  Guamuchiles 2

Tasty little snack that comes out every year at this time. It is like a bean. You separate the pod from the white "meat" which encases a little, flat black seed. Not sweet, not sour, just tasty! Guamuchiles, anyone?

What does it taste like?

Well, I spent a lot of time trying to think of a way to compare it to something familiar and came up blank. So, I don't know.

Looks so interesting, I don't think we have anything comparable here.

Interesting looking beans -- very colorful!
I ate Edamame at a Japanese restaurant once and apparently you're only supposed to eat the bean. Well, I ended up putting the entire thing into my mouth and my Dad made me eat it. Nasty.

Those are my son's favorite beans to eat!

If it tastes like a bean, I would love it. I haven't met a bean yet that I cannot savor!

Actually, it is just a bit sweet. You don't cook it. You just eat the white "meat" part. It has the consistency (not the taste, mind you) of a plum, only much drier. I wonder if there's anything in the states like it?

The black seed is what you eat? Or do you also eat the white 'meat' part?

I doubt that the customs department here in Hawaii would allow them in anyway.

You eat the white "meat" part only. The little black seed is no good. Sure wish I could send ya'll some. Not sure US Customs would allow that.

I have never heard of these, but looking at the picture, I would think that you would only eat the black bean. The younger beans might be eaten like sugar snap peas.
