  Politics, Blogs and Angry People

I'm amused lately by the various blogs I peruse here on Greasy. Everyone seems to be so sure that his or her political party and political candidates are the remedy for what ails our great nation. If they don't view them as the cure-all, they at least see them as better, by definition, than anyone working in or near Washington these days. Apparently, they think things must necessarily get better with change. Any change. On the other hand, others are scared to death that change will be negative and that everything is just fine. Hmph! Well, you're not going to read what I think about all of it in this blog. That's for sure.  I simply don't want to get involved. I see how the conversation immediately degenerates into a  name calling, mud slinging, free-for-all and frankly, I have better things to do with my time.

It's just amusing to see the firey reactions of so many whose opinions are criticized or whose political views are questioned. Politics are important to me. It is what makes the country go 'round. But honestly, I don't want to isolate any part of my readership here by aligning myself with one side or the other. The polite and friendly conversation is too enjoyable to taint by broaching the two subjects that have always been considered off limits to true gentlemen: religion and politics.

Despite the fact that I am the pastor of a church, you'll seldom get a religious or political judgment here. There's room in this sand box for ALL of us to play happily together. And I truly hope you'll stop by often.

BTW, the next best way to lose friends is to loan them money.

I am not very well educated on the topic of politics, so I tend to steer clear of it.

Opinions do not qualify as right or wrong, (in my opinion) and everybody's got one,

Individual's political opinions, mine, yours, and everyone else's, are what I always call "Brain Farts"!!!! Brain Blurbs????
comment by oldfatguy on June 2, 2008 6:29 PM ()

Oh yes! I too hate to talk "politics".....too many are too offended. They don't just have their opinion...they ARE RIGHT.....and they will look differently at any of us who see things another way. Most are not open to letting me have my own opinion.....so I choose to stay away from political discussions....same with religion. I have my faith and that is all that matters to me. It's between me and God.......Hope you're well and enjoying life to the fullest!

You're no fun. Poltics and religion are two of the three most exciting topics one can talk about. And you appear to be rational enough to hold your own on either one.
comment by think141 on June 1, 2008 7:23 AM ()
Awww, come on now. I might be more fun than you think. Supposing I am rational enough to hold my own on both, my greatest fear is that of isolating someone who might otherwise come here and enjoy a good read. I will, however, keep your suggestion in mind. Who knows, I might be persuaded to opine on some controversial subject or other.
reply by jerms on June 1, 2008 8:21 AM ()
That's my philosophy too. Too many people have strong opinions regarding both.
comment by nittineedles on May 31, 2008 10:44 PM ()
I suppose having a strong opinion is OK. However, I take issue with those who write my opinion off as invalid or insignificant because it isn't like theirs. And if you really want to see me get upset, just try and shove your strong opinion down my throat. That's when the sparks start flying. Thanks for stopping by.
