Light My Fire (Post Title by Donna's Woman Brain)

Ok, you saw my chain saw post and said, "but John, you don't have anything to cut without stripping the back yard of all vegetation!" Well, you were correct: until today! I now have something to cut...

These logs, plus the cost of the new saw were cheaper than buying the same amount wood already cut and split. There is more than a winter's worth of wood here, plus I get to keep the chain saw! My buddy picked it out, and it was $200 more than I would have spent, but it will last, aside from doing a better job with less vibration.

Tomorrow Adam, the buddy mentioned above is coming buy for a few hours. I said, "no problem, I can handle it myself from here," but he was first to fire up the saw yesterday, and he obviously can't wait to play with it! But now, I'll let the pictures do the talking, it's pretty straight forward...

The "woman's brain" is Donna taking credit for the title--it's her words, not mine! Apparently complimentary!

It's so pretty where you live. In some pictures that looks like a lake back there and others a field - it's a field, right?

Yup, it's a field. I had a hard time photographing that day. The sun was almost overhead and digital cameras distort much more than film in bright sun.

Well have at it! Go for it John!

Ugh... I'm going .... Had to move a few face cords of seasoned wood to make room for the new... but I'm getting caught up!

Pretty neat! I always wonder what the workers think that you are taking pictures of them though! Actually, I took pictures of my son looking at a huge backhoe working on the road in front of my house, and the guy stopped, and took my son up on the backhoe so I could get better pictures!

I asked this guy if he minded some pic taking.... to document the process for a blog. He told me to go right ahead. I also took pictures of a highway crew repairing the State Highway after the flood. I think that's kind of self-explanatory, so I didn't say anything to them.

I see that you found it!

But here's a link for anyone who hasn't. It's not 100% complimentary, but it's funny!

No, I didn't see the pics she took. What is her user name?

You're right... my buddy wouldn't let me play with it! I only got to try it for a few minutes.... Did you see the pics Donna took?

You can light my fire anytime.
No,I am not hitting on you. What else do you want me to say.
comment by fredo on Sept 4, 2008 10:22 AM ()
Oh, I think you could have thought of something else if you really wanted to!
reply by jjoohhnn on Sept 4, 2008 4:59 PM ()
Be careful with that saw (sorry, the woman in me speaking). One bonus is that you should shed a few pounds and firm up the physique. I'm sure Donna won't mind that.

She's looking forward to that! She's been doing Atkins for 2 months or so. We have goals!

This is going to take a while...I once bought a chain saw, didn't trust myself, never used it and gave it away for a fund raiser for one of those silent auctions...watch out for the kick backs and best of luck
comment by strider333 on Sept 3, 2008 6:59 PM ()
I've been studying kickback, and my buddy has been showing me all the mistakes that guys make. I'm going into it with the thought that kickback can happen on the next cut. Yup, it will take awhile. It usually takes me 5 hours to stack 2 cords of precut and split wood. This will be close to 7 cords, but I have the time.

So, tomorrow you'll be posting pictures of your cut and stacked firewood?
comment by nittineedles on Sept 3, 2008 6:07 PM ()
The plan is to cut off the jagged ends...after that, we'll see!

Light my fire has been around for a long time as a title!!!
Saws and wood??? Sounds too much like exercise!@!!
comment by greatmartin on Sept 3, 2008 5:51 PM ()
Well, ah.. I think of the exercise as a positive thing! Fresh air, sunshine, yeah!

My father-in-law does the same thing. Buys whole logs and cuts them up for winter. In fact he's been trying to get rid of the stuff because he has too much. Save it for next winter.
comment by draco on Sept 3, 2008 5:40 PM ()
Yup! The plan is to have enough to two seasons!
reply by jjoohhnn on Sept 3, 2008 6:29 PM ()
