  Suggestions?

Ok, Greasytown.. I need suggestions! Donna went away for a few days, and I need some ideas on what to do for excitement while she's gone. I already have the food angle covered! I'll be having some lamb, which she won't eat under any circumstances, and tonight I'll be having wings and fries, which she won't eat while she's on Atkins. Then what after that???

She did leave the rabbits in my care, so maybe I could organize a dog vs. rabbit race or something like that! But that might very quickly turn into a dog chases rabbit race, so I'll have to give this careful consideration. Coonhounds are fast, and even tho bunz hop, I'm not sure they have a fair chance!

I could play with the B-day present I gave Donna, but I think she took it with her. Such a sap that I am.... "Oh come on", she said, "I'll be back in classes by the time my b-day comes around (Sept 11) so can't I have it now?" So of course, even tho I'm not the people-pleaser of the family, I said "Of course, sweetie. Have fun with it!"

I could wash some more drapes... Not that that actually constitutes excitement, but last time I did that, the backing stuck to itself, and the entire set had to be replaced in the bedroom. The excitement comes when she sees the damage, and then again when we buy replacements--oh, the choices! But funds are tight, so I best leave well-enough alone when it comes to window treatments.

I could go spend some more time in the garden. The squash are coming along great!

I'm not sure I even like butternut squash. I meant to get the yellow ones, but came home with this instead. We like to mix the yellow and green, fried in butter or EVOO. This stuff is supposed to be sliced in half and then buttered and baked with brown sugar, although my buddy puts maple syrup on it. Hopefully I'll fancy it, since Donna won't eat it on Atkins, and there will be plenty of it!

This one is almost ready to go. In fact, it's been looking like it's almost ready to go for days. I hope I'm not leaving it longer than I have to, but I think it's supposed to be more beige than green.

Three of the cucumber plants have survived, but they are not producing like the squash. But the cukes are seedless and delicious!

Here's one more pic. I took it for the lone surviving lettuce plant, but the colors are nice and the marigolds are doing rather well.

Ok, I have to go think about getting a cake in the oven while the weather is cooperative. It's been on the cool side here for the middle of August, although I'm not complaining. As always.......

Put some cinnamon on the butternut squash...they are quite tasty.

Hmm.. Cinnamon sounds better than maple syrup (pancakes only). Do these things need to be completely beige to be ripe, or is some pale green ok??

Awwww... it's so sweet that you are gonna miss Donna while she's gone and man enough to admit it, Lucky girl.
Hopefully you'll find enough to putter with to make the time go fast until she comes home.

Yup, I'm keeping busy. But keeping warm at night is going to be difficult. It's supposed to be in the 40s tonight, and 38 tomorrow night! It's not even close to the start of heating season, the a/c is still in the window!

I love your garden! Very healthy green leaves... nice. I'll have to think about what you can do while she is gone.......

Hmm... She'll be back before I get any good suggestions!

You have a fabulous garden! Butternut squash sounds as if it should be yellow! I think I've seen them in the stores, but in my memory they weren't green. Rabbit vs dog?? That doesn't sound good. (I just heard on the TV news that teachers were allowed to carry guns in the classroom somewhere... they haven't gotten to that story yet... Oh, it's in Texas... off the subject!)

Guns in the classroom? This will make a great blog for somebody! How about guns in pre-school? Save a bunch of taxpayer $$ that way!

here is what women don't want to come home to, a house that is legally a disaster zone, so pick up after yourself. animals wandering around in a daze cuz they have not beed fed or watered. soap sudz all over the kitchen and an explanation of the dish washer went crazy.

Uh... nothing like that will happen on my watch.

Rabbit v dog races
I don't know, us women should never leave a man to his own devices
If you weighed up the pro's and con's between Drapes and gardening, gardening will always win, even women prefer the gardening to drape washing lol.
After that, fil the tub with loads of bubbles and have a relaxing soak, but don't use the bubbles with gold written brand names, donna won't thank you for that (probably very expensive lol) Be good now jjohn.

Bubbles? Oh no! If she found out I was doing that she'd probably not come back!

Half the stuff we grow is not so much because I’ll eat it but it looks good in the garden.

Wonder what it is with the lettuce…least you did better than us you have the one remaining, ours sucked this year.

Cheers...

I think I know where one or two of the lettuce went, but I wouldn't want the boyz to get in trouble, so I won't tell!

what a beautiful garden! You are so lucky!
For entertainment, rent some movies?
comment by kristilyn3 on Aug 17, 2008 12:36 PM ()
Actually, Netflix will be sending the next movie on the list in a day or so. But the account Donna signed us up for includes two hours of movie viewing on the computer. We had to do it last night, since the account cycles today. We (she watched the first half) watched something about Tibet that I forgot the name of, but it was an interesting documentary. The saddest part is that every time we buy a product made in China, we are supporting the oppression and torture of people in Tibet. Really sucks.

When I heard about that storm on Friday morning it hadn't even been named. Frank the local weather guy said it would be awhile before forecasters knew whether it would come up the coast or not. I'm really not looking forward to testing the new pumps, and you guys certainly don't need a hurricane! The Olympics aren't exciting enough, although I saw some diving last week. Nope, gotta be something that gets me in trouble!
