Sunday Cats ...

Doobie a.k.a. 'Babydude' likes to help out when I am in the bathroom. The cubby top belongs to him. He will be two on Labor Day. Bunjii has rejoined us in the rest of the house (He was isolated in the guest room upstairs for 4 weeks during his recuperation from surgery.) He has claimed a shelf where I stack hand towels as his bathroom domain. Nobody will pester him there.

Boom ...

I know my history. Independence Day is celebrated here each July 4 to commemorate the day Will Smith blew up the alien mother ship and saved the planet Earth from those damn strange-looking interlopers with skulls like manta rays that vaporized LA and several other cities around the world. What a movie! Fireworks is the way we celebrate it. Until the first Independence Day we ignored fireworks. Fireworks was the plaything of the elite. French kings and queens gathered in their splendid par ...

The Cat with the Hat ...

There once was a cat who begat a painting of things on a hat, but sadly it seems that the hat wouldn't fit 'cause his head was too fat. (Anyway, here are some pics of what the hat looked like before I sent it off to the Farm Bureau. For details on how to vote, go to http://www.jondude.com/art.htm and see the bottom left column. Voting should begin some time in August.

Tuesday Without Ruby, or Baseball ...

There is a restaurant over in Findlay, a chain, that usurped their name from a Rolling Stones tune. Ruby Tuesdays is a pretty good place for lunch. When I take my Uncle Jim along on my monthly trip over to the "big" city (50,000 pop.) we lunch on his wallet. Usually we go to Cheddars, Olive Garden or some other sit-down joint like The Red Pig. This week Ruby Tuesdays had a coupon deal in the paper. I want to utilize it, because it will just about pay for a gallon of gasoline and it takes a ...

Very Good News About Bunjii!

Here's the deal: Bunjii's tumor has been finally diagnosed, prognosed, stuck, needled, amplified, verified and categorized. It is not cancerous. Not even close. (Bunjii - left - with Satch and Rosebud) It is a kind of tumor that began appearing in felines and some dogs a few years ago. It appears rarely but in all circumstances it appears in the spot where pets were formerly inocculated by needle --- when vets would use combination injections. Those injections have been fading away since t ...

Stitches ...

Today Bunjii will have the stitches removed. NOTE: UPDATE FOLLOWS THIS PART. Isn't the shirt cute? Thanks to Catdancer for the loan of his temporary wardrobe. I will keep using it for him after he is released into the rest of my house. The cats do play and the little one, Doobie, picks on Bunjii. I may just keep him for a few more days and nights in the guest room, to make sure the incisions hold after the stitches are out. He seems to be comfortable with being up there. I spend some time ...

The Hat is Done ...

I wrapped it up Tuesday night and let it dry, gave it a good coat of acrylic polymer (matte) varnish) and went to bed. Yesterday I put it in its box along with my entry for our county. I added my bio, which was required. Then I took it to a friend who has a photography studio and we shot pics of the hat and me (also required.) Today I take it over to the Farm Bureau office at the county fairgrounds and bid it farewell. I showed it to another pal yesterday, and took it over to show my mothe ...

On Being a Colorist ...

Every now and then I hold a painting class at the Art Guild. One of the first things I say is this: "We are painting, not making copies of photographs. It is no coincidence that when the first photographs appeared about 1850, painters were liberated from being photographers. They started painting in the 'style' we call Post Impressionism. So we are going to paint color and form as we wish to paint it, not as we see it. Make your paintings look like they were painted. Don't attempt to smoot ...

Musing Monday Night ...

I posted a comment on Hayduke's story about his doctor's report on the Colonoscopy. It was in jest, of course. I don't tolerate shooting doctors. About six years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson;s Disease. I was devastated. Parkinson's is usually pretty damned fatal. I put my will on paper. I finally went to another doctor who had me try Carbidopa-Levidopa. It cost a fortune and I had to take it three times a day. It made me listless and it was difficult to stay awake. After a couple of ...

It's Driving Me Crazy ...

This is the wall cloud that had the tornado in it which went right over my place yesterday afternoon. The funnel never touched down but it was a thick one. I went out with the camera after we got a little penny-sized hail to shoot a pic of the hailstones and looked up to see the hook cloud pass overhead. It made the hair on my head go vertical. You could hear it! ........... Speaking of hair, I was given the job by the Art Guild (for which I am no longer being a fall guy for the club's pro ...

Predicting and Musing ...

I am no longer a heavy investor. For one thing I am semi-retired, recently divorced, and nearly a pauper because of those points. My legal fees in the giant peeing contest of 2002 to 2005 were over 46,000. Add that to the excruciating terms of the split and here I am. I do have some cash left in my Keogh (I was self employed for over 30 years.) I must carefully husband that cash so that there will be enough money to bury my now 90-year-old mother and hopefully dispose of my own remains som ...

A Return to the Sport ...

I awoke about 5:30 a.m. and punched the Krups for coffee. I fed the cats, moaning and groaning as I do until I got water on my face and a Ketoprofen in my stomach. Then I showered and shaved and went out to read the slim little newspaper. Wait! It is Thursday! It is my men's club golf morning out on the course! What the Hell... I'm going this time! It has been five and a half weeks since I snapped my damned hamstring and I no longer have any pain associated with it. I went back in and got ...
