  Trash Can Progess ...

So I'm painting a trash can. It is one of those medium size sheet metal, galvanized, complete with a bail handle and lid. I'm doing it for the Art Guild's auction that will take place during our Heritage Festival in late September. The funds will go into the Guild's depleted treasury, so the Guild can buy more ridiculous items such as trash cans and rocking chairs (see last year's auction art) in the future, thereby harnessing more of my talent and time for their treasury.

Last year I painted a copy of Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" on an Adirondack rocker. It was a hit.

This year I am doing another decent copy of Vincent's work - actually of two paintings - one on each side of the aforementioned container. The can is due Tuesday the second of September. It will be photographed along with all the others and published in a special section of the local newspaper before the Festival.

Here is the current state of the aforementioned refuse container, as it sits on my foyer table where the cats have been having a blast with my brushes and paint tubes.

Last years I titled the rocker "Vincent's Off His Rocker."

I think I will title this one "Vincent's On The Can."

verah cool...that Van Gogh rocker sounds great. If you ever do a tapestry featuring Van Gogh's works you can call it "Vincent's On The Rag"

You're so industrious! How to pretty up a galvanized can... hope you get a high bid. Looks like fun.

I had to scrub the can with a solvent first, then coated it with white pigmented shellac (Zinsser's B.I.N.). Then I gave it a complete coat of clear polymer acrylic. Geez! You can't paint the edges where the lid fits or the lid scrapes off the paint.

That looks awesome. You artistic folks make me feel so worthless....I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler.

Love your trash can. I could use it, too. How many gallons is it? How heavy? How to bid by phone? Details, please!
Have a great time at the football game! It's a great evening....

Sounds like just the thing — and a lid, too! Super! Did you paint the lid? I hoping a phone bid will be possible....

I'll see if a phone bid is possible. The auction will be on Sunday the 21st of Sept. Two o'clock, in the little park next to the Ritz Theater. The can is about 18 inches high and 14 inches across at the opening. It has a lid. I have no idea how many gallons...

I'd bid on it (if I needed a bucket)!

HS football tonight. My alma mater plays their 2nd game at home vs. Lakota. Both are 1-0. Hopewell-Loudon will destroy Lakota. H-L is last year's state-runner-up and picked to win it all this year. I'm taking my Uncle Jim to the game. He, too, likes the bratwursts at the concession stand. Beer after over at Clouse's Tavern in Bascom, our old homey town. GO CHIEFTAINS!
