  Sid the Kid

Quick, name the best Crosby in sports right now. The young shortstop for Oakland might come to mind, who by the way Peter Gammons picked as his AL MVP this year (good pick buddy), or perhaps you might be a Yankees fan and think of Bubba. Well neither of those are good options because you aren’t thinking in the right sport. Try the National Hockey League. Yea, that game on the pond is back and a man named Sidney Crosby is one of the brightest shinning stars in it. As we have seen more and more recently, bright shinning star equals advertising opportunity. Give credit to Gatorade then for stepping up to the plate and signing on Sidney Crosby. The Crosby commercial, which is currently only airing in Canada, has had instant success. The advertisement features a bunch of young kids throwing their sticks in a pile getting ready to play a pick up hockey game. Then out of nowhere, this bright young superstar Sidney Crosby shows up, throws his stick into the pile and tells the kids that he is in. They all look up in shock as people come from all over to participate in the pick up roller hockey game now that Sid the Kid is in. Why is it that people want to use the products of their favorite athletes? Really it is quite simple; drinking Gatorade will get you that much closer to elevating your game like Sidney Crosby does. Now of course this is not a realistic thought, but where is the harm in the human being mind of trying to get every single competitive edge they can get in such a competition like hockey. Hockey is known for its physicality and there is no doubt about it that professional hockey players are some of the finest athletes in the world. This commercial shows that an athlete such as Sidney Crosby maintains his game by replenishing with Gatorade. Gatorade is a company that is featured at nearly every athletic event, whether it is in the coolers on team benches, or on the signage in center field. Gatorade is one of the most widely marketed sports beverage and one of the few items that targets both men and women, young and older. It is easy to see why people would want to use a product endorsed by such a prominent athlete.
