  Glorious Times

I love weekends.

R and I had a fabulous time. We slacked A LOT but got some stuff done too, so it was a good mix! I enjoyed my pet sit, and work yesterday wasn't too bad. I worked with a man who had just become a citizen last Tuesday (how exciting for him!) He came here from Sierra Leone in 2002 to make a living with a permanent visa. I can't imagine how these people come to America with no family and make it work somehow. How courageous! It amazes me. In October he is going home to visit his family, who he hasn't seen since he came here. Man I would be REVVED up for that! :0)

Anyways, I adore weekends.

The news today has saddened me. There was a story out of Arizona
about how many pets are being left behind due to foreclosures. It breaks my heart. Then I learned that in NJ an endangered whale washed ashore (dead) with a broken back and broken fin. Apparently these are signs that he was hit by a large vessel. Makes me sad... Us humans can be so freakin careless with the life that surrounds us.

I gave my mom the Farm Sanctuary book for mothers day. It was funny when she opened it, surrounded by my family, everyone kinda groaned, not unexpectedly. She has reported to me, however, that she LOVED it and found it very informative. She has passed it on to my dad to read and even recommended I give it to my SIL for her b-day, which I did. This makes me extremely happy. I think I may finally have found a breakthrough with my family! At least they won't think I am crazy or anything I guess, and maybe they will finally understand why I want to work at the Farm Sanctuary. Anyways, once again, I highly recommend you all read Farm Sanctuary by Gene Bauer. It's not preachy. My mom liked it even though she went into thinking she was going to hate it. This gives me hope for the masses! :0)

I hate Mondays.

Sounds like a great gift idea! I've symbolically adopted a few animals in people's names as gifts, and for our wedding reception we're encouraging people to spend their money on Pawsitive gifts (www.pawsitivegifts.com)instead of on us.

that's so selfless. I love it! If I ever get married I just might do the same!

How in the world can people leave their pets behind? Ours are part of our family and there is NO WAY we would ever do that. I just don't understand some people!!

Sometimes we "old folks" discover there is STILL something we can learn from the younger generation.

You've got a great mom. It's gotta be great to know that you're getting through to your family at least!

I am ready to retire... you?
Let's go live off the good graces of others! I will come by you, you have better weather.
I have thought this through.

My Polish great grandparents came to this country like your friend from Sierra Leone did. They didn't have a nickel in their pockets, and they could barely speak the language. But they came in search of a better life, and, through hard work and determination, they made it! How scary that must have been though!
