  Fullfilling a Promise

Here is what I would like to be on my headstone.
When I come to the end of my journey
and I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smiles.
Forget unkind words I have spoken,
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had a heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun.
Forget that I have stumbled and blundered
and sometimes fell by the way.
Remember that I fought some rare battles
and won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
but in summer just gather some flowers,
And remember that place where I lay,
And come in the shade of evening,
when the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few minutes beside me,
And remember only the best!

"Then forget to grieve for my going/ I would not have you sad for a day." I like that sentiment particularly.

Thats a superb one Larry .
I have got a couple of favourite poems. They are by Georgina Christina Rosetti (think, that's how you spell her name)! One is called 'Remember' & the other, 'Song'. Perhaps you have come across them before, they do have lovely sentiments.
My husband is an H.G.V class 1 driver too! He isn't working at the moment as he is looking after me (I know he misses the 'road' though . . . especially when I start to 'nag' - [which I do very little . . . . . ])

Thanks, Those sound like good poems, although I haven't
heard of them.
Speaking of the road, I loved it for a time, then I started
staying away from too long.
