This is Deputy Faux, our town speed control enforcer. He sits on the side of the highway facing south. Many times, as I've returned home, I've seen tourists brake as soon as they spot the law enforcement vehicle when they come over the rise into town. Each time that happens, Deputy Faux has done his job.
Here's a little closer look at Deputy Faux as he sits dutifully in his Ram Charger, awaiting scofflaws. Out-of-state plates, of course, get priority attention. Does he appear a little stiff to you? Let's zoom in on him, shall we?
At first one might suspect that the deputy has devoured too many morning doughnuts and finally, perhaps painfully, succumbed. Not so fast, my friend. Our town watchdog is actually a mannikin dressed in a deputy shirt. He does his job every day sans complaint. He is a marvel of duplicitous traffic control.
Naturally, after a good snow, his law enforcement effectiveness is somewhat depreciated, I'll admit. The vehicle becomes covered with snow and the ruse, sadly, is apparent to even the dullest scofflaw. For some reason, no one in town has come forward to volunteer for the job of sweeping the snow off the deputy's vehicle and shoveling out the piles around the tires in order to restore him to his frozen but efficacious self. Yet, eventually, the sunshine melts away the snow and Deputy Faux, once again, is on patrol...
