This is my sweet L'il Sophie. Note the eyelashes! She was already well on in years when we rescued her and her teeth were in such a bad state that we had to have all but five yanked. She's deaf as a stone and a little arthritic in the hind legs. Plus, she's losing her sight.
One day I noticed that she often would move along the bottom of the couch rubbing her face on it as she went. She did the same thing along the base of the bed. It appeared that she was rubbing her eyes. Maybe they itch, I don't know. But that's when I began our daily face scrubbing.
She hops up on the ottoman of the chair in the bedroom. I get her little blanket (my wife calls it a woobie...don't ask me the derivation of that word) and surround her face with it as I scrub both her eyes lightly. She just loves it. She snorts and gurgles and moves her head in tune with my hand movements. It has become our morning ritual.
After the face scrubbing, I turn to my computer and she has a little snooze on the ottoman next to me.
L'il Sophie is the only dog I ever kissed...
