  Walking the Hills

This morning I donned some good shoes and headed out with a walking pole to amble around the hills near my house. There are ATV trails all over the place and, initially, I stayed on one of those. It curved up and down and, whenever I'd come to a fork in the road, I'd take the one that headed further up. Eventually, I left the obvious trail and just wandered around, heading generally south. Here's a cliff a few hundred yards from my house.

There are rocks all over the place and one of these days I'm going to get myself one of those ATVs with a rear storage area and go up there to collect some nice flat ones for stepping stones, walls, and the like. This morning I found a few interesting rocks but decided to bring this one home.

At first I thought it was petrified wood. I ran into someone on the way back home who thought it was a geode but, since there's no cavity, I don't think that's an accurate description. In any event, the natural design is definitely unusual and attractive.

Would certainly be an interesting walk of stones around the outside of the house!

The rock almost looks like a Native American carving. It is very unusual.

I thought about you the other day when I drove through Cedar City. I was trying to figure out how long it took me to get there in case we ever decide to have a meet at Applebees. I left LV at 4:15 am and I think it was about 7:30 when I went thru Cedar City, so you'd have had to get up pretty early to get over there. We'll get together sometime.

I fancy myself as an amateur geologist, but your rock has me stumped. Could be a geode. They don't have to be hollow, just crystal filled. I've collected many a rock in my wanderings. I'll be sharing some of your Utah beauty in 10 days!

Wish I could get over there to Canyonlands with you. I know you'll have the time of your life.

You live in gorgeous country! It doesn't really look like a geode, or really petrified wood. It is lovely! Did you just post this? It wasn't here when I anwered "Michael."
