The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan

Fans of Greek mythology will love this fourth volume in the Percy Jacks & the Olympians series. Percy is off on another quest that is crucial to keep Camp Half-Blood, a summer vacation and training center for the half-human children of the Greek gods. Set in modern America, Percy and his friends Annabeth (the daughter of Athena) and the satyr Grover along with Percy's brother the cyclops Tyson are off on a quest to find Daedalus, who holds the key to preventing the evil Titan Kronos and his forces from using the Labyrinth, which now wends throughout the whole earth, to attack the camp as part of his war against Olympus. Unfortunately, Daedalus is also hidden in the Labyrinth.

As they wend there way through the underground, they run into no shortage of traditional mythological monsters and characters. Like the rest of the books in the series, this one is fast paced and full of action and is rife with humor, particularly in relation to the traditional Greek elements tying in with modern conveniences.

I flew through this one, just as I have the rest of the series. In all honesty, this is one of my favorite series for middle school aged kids right now. It appeals to guys and gals even though the books number more than 300 pages. It is just plain old fun while also being well researched in the areas of Greek mythology.

AJ, you are such an avid reader, I shame in your presence -- and I'm a teacher

As a teacher, you have so many things on your plate so I wouldn't worry too much!

Must fess up- I am a fan of children's books and am always looking at them and reading them both at the library and in book stores. It is nice to see we are including more fantasy in their reading diets.

What's this series that they are making (or have made) in to a movie opening soon about a girl who falls in love with a vampire--suppose to be a big selling book series--I, also, read there is a new vampire series coming to TV this season--what's with all the vampires?!?!?!?!

Vampires have cycled into being one of the big things right now. It is a fad, but it comes and goes.
"Twilight" is tremendously popular and pretty good. The books that follow are mediocre at best, but the teens are still drawn to Bella and the romantic triangle between her, Edward (vamp), and Jake (werewolf).
"True Blood," the HBO show is based on a series of books I have reviewed on here by Charlaine Harris. I am so looking forward to it.
