  Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich

I very patiently waited to get my turn in the long waiting list for this one.

Stephanie Plum, the bounty hunter who ekes by as she solves mysteries, is back for another adventure. This time the mystery centers around her long-term, on-and-off again boyfriend Joe Morelli. His cousin Loretta has been kidnapped. The reason is that her brother Dom may have had ties to a big bank robbery years earlier and someone is out to get the dough after all these years.

Stephanie, who through odd circumstances has taken in Loretta's son, is on the case and learns unexpected things ... like Joe may actually be the boys father. She is joined by Lulu the ex-ho who dresses most interestingly and Lunar, a nice guy who always seems to be skirting the law.

To make things even more interesting, they run into former-country mustic superstar Brenda (just one name because she is so big!), who is looking to restart her career as she enters her 60s. Stephanie meets her by helping her good friend Ranger and his company as they provide bodyguards, but their relationship becomes more ... challenging ... as Brenda decides to do a reality show not unlike Cops as she follows Stephanie around.

When Loretta's toes start arriving one by one at Morelli's, there is no question that they have to hurry. The question is whether they can get the job done in time because no one seems to know anything, even what they need to give the guy holding Loretta.

This is another laugh-out-loud addition to the series, which has such wonderfully funny characters to support Stephanie.

My girlfriend has been trying desperately to get me to read this series. She says thay are all riotously funny- and since you think so too, maybe I will...

Right now I am caught up in biographies and autobiographies--Rupert Everett, Bea Lillie, Lillian Helman, etc. then I have my pile of detective stories to get to.

I enjoyed this one also, not as much as the others, but still, number 14 and a nice read.

I know... she is a wonderful character. Didn't she have a man last time, she is always looking for a man... and cookies.

I miss the grandmother! She is always such a great addition, and she has just played minor roles in the last couple of books!
