  Budding Time

green butterflies

At long last
just in the last few hours
faint hints of color
dust the tree limbs

for months I've been
awaiting this very moment
when swelling leaf buds
pop open with joy

now just born
tender growing leaves
long to dance
on the wind

soon —
like green butterflies
freed from chrysalises —
they will

Beautiful poem and imagery. Yesterday was National Poem in your Pocket Day. All the students here (at least a great deal of them) brought either an original poem or a classic poem to school in their pocket. The media specialists and several ENglish teachers wore crazy hats. Anyone who had on a crazy hat the student would read his/her poem to them and then get tickets. The tickets entered them in a raffle for some really cute prizes like books! It was so much fun to watch these High School students doing this.

Wasn't National Poem in a Pocket Day the coolest thing? Loved the idea! I was involved with family for a memorial service for a dearly beloved great aunt, so it was a sad day. But I kept Emily Dickinson's poem, "Hope is a thing with feathers," in my pocket that day and for many days since.

Don't you just love willow trees? They are so hopeful and enthusiastic come spring, often leading the greening leaf parade!

The courthouse lawn here is bright yellow with daffs and Narcissi. My crocuses are done and dying off. My white lilac's tiny leaves have burst open. My barbecue cover comes off today. All signs that Spring has sprung!

We are a bit behind your happy bright growing progress, but each day will bring a new touch of spring delights! How I love this time of year....
