  Spain Pictures - Part Two

Here is the last set of pictures that Ryan sent me of his trip to Barcelona. I will break them up into three parts: Gaudi architecture, gay Barcelona, and miscellaneous. It was easier for me to do it this way. Ryan told me that he was so surprised by the active gay scene in Barcelona. He spotted a lot of same-sex couples holding hands in public, kissing, etc -- something he wasn't expecting, but was pleasantly surprised by. :)

Gaudi architecture:

Gay Barcelona:

Ryan wasn't sure what this man's sexual orientation was but he told me I had to include his pic in this section. The guy was happy to have his picture taken, so that's exactly what Ryan did.

Wonderful pics. Thanks for posting them. It is refreshing to see that people can freely be whatever they choose to be in other parts of the world. Perhaps this homophobic country where we live will follow suit soon.
The architecture is amazing!

Yes, I agree that the USA still has a lot of catching up to do with its treatment of the GLBT population. Hopefully in the next 10 years we'll see even more positive change!

Woow I have visited all those places too, seeing these pics makes me jealous again. The Gaudi ones ... great, the Sagrada Familia is uch a great architecual topic (and still not finished)! Btw same sex couples holding hands, and kissing is not so weird here. We are used to it (at least in AMsterdam). Thx sharing these pics Matt ( and thk to Ryan as well off course). Ryan did have agreat time. Next visit: Amsterdam??

I mentioned to Ryan how much everyone enjoyed his photographs. I'm sure he'd love to visit Amsterdam (so would I!) :). Wasn't Amsterdam the first European country to legalize same-sex marriage?
I'm glad you enjoyed the pics

I suppose if you asked them they'd say they are Catalan, not Spanish. Spanish laws are the best in the world regarding personal freedoms and gays, and they came about because the repression of Catholicism became so onerous, a few years ago the left-leaning government had a land-slide victory over the conservatives because they promised to end forever the power of the church. Just shows what can be done when you admit that the source of all repression - gays, women and others, is religion, pure and simple. I wish our countries would follow suit.Nice pics, thanks!

Thanks for the explanation. Repression is never a good thing -- its great that Spain's left leaning government took the initiative to put an end to the church's (sometimes) distructive influence on traditions and societal beliefs. I wish too that somehow our church leaders would follow suit.
I'm glad you enjoyed Ryan's photos!

Gay marriage has been law in Spain for quite awhile now which was surprising since it is such a catholic country.
Yes, Latin men are hot--and the women look good, too.
Did he go with a group? Was it a tour?
comment by greatmartin on June 26, 2008 4:27 PM ()
He went with a tour group from work (all expenses paid..nice!). The only individual excursion Ryan took alone was to see the Gaudi architecture. That's why this was a once in a lifetime trip for him.

Love the one with the little boy feeding the birds And hey if the last guy in the "gay" section was happy to have his picture taken, then you've got him in the right place.
