I'm currently on my 4 day break, as I work permanant night shift, in offices, on a thames river port container depot. I am a controller for road rescue, repair and recovery. A bit like green flag, autonational, the kind you get with your insurance. We are a bit different, in that we don't charge membership, and you pay for the service when you need it.
Anyway, as I said, I do nights, 4 12 hour nights, then 4 days off! Cool, apart from the distance I travel and the isolation. So, I account for 50% of the night shift. The other 50% is Kelvin, the husband of Jenny, who works day 12 hour shift, 4 on and 4 off.
Kelvin Died last night!
Actual fact, he liked a drink a lot. Too much. He had already suffered the almost blindness in his one eye, falling pissed onto the corner of the coffee table. Horror show man! Scream city, ugly vibe.
Now it seems that when Kelvin was not in 20 mins early, as was his want.Jenny called the next door folk to see if his car is present.
"Yes dear, shall I pop and knock on the door? OK dear, I'll call you back in a tick. Bye"
Call back:-"Jenny, I don't want to worry you, but I can see the shape at the bottom of the stairs through the frosted glass of the door. I looked through the letter box. It was Kelvin, I called the ambulance...."
Jenny rushed the 2 miles back home and was confronted with the ambulance para medics , the law ect. Kelvin was dead. There's going to be a post mortem. But hey, I don't feel bad for him, but compassion for his wife Jenny, now we're 2 staff down. It may seem calous, but it means extra 12 hour shifts. Not even at overtime rate.
