  The House Ate My Cat!

It's true. I still can't believe it happened. DH and I had been painting the interior walls most of the morning. He got called away for a few hours and I soldiered on tediously working on the trim. In the hall I came across a large cold air return vent on the wall and decided it would be easier to undo the two screws holding it on than tape it. Later I was taking a break out on the front porch with a cup of coffee in hand, watching the rain pour down and I heard this noise that sounded a bit like thunder but just the boom, no rumbling. Curiosity got the better of me and I went to look out a back window to see if one of the noisy neighbours was loading a pickup with something heavy. As I walked through the house I could hear the irregular booms and suddenly realized they were coming from the bowels of the house. Peaches the cat was standing in the living room looking at me as if to say, "Can't you do something about that noise?" Angel-Who-Isn't, however, was nowhere to be found. She had fallen or more likely climbed into the hole in the wall where I had removed the cold air return vent and was wandering in the heating ducts. I panicked! I was on the verge of totally losing it when DH came home. I told him where the cat was and he ran to the hole. He said, "She's right here." and when I got to the hole he had both arms in there holding onto Angel. However, he couldn't pull her out because the hole wasn't big enough for his hands and the cat. Following his instructions I pulled the molding off the wall and ripped away some gyprock at the bottom edge of the hole and Angel's head popped out and she looked around. I told DH to let go of her and see if she could climb out on her own as she was getting antsy and starting to growl. He let go, I hollered, "Kitty Treats!" and Angel-Who-Still-Isn't-And-Never-Will-Be climbed out and sashayed on down the hall to the kitchen looking for her treats. I thought these types of panic/emergencies were behind me when the kids all moved out.

That's too funny! Oh, I know it wasn't funny at the time...very far from it! But, knowing your kitty is ok now and full of those treats, I guess it's ok to look back and laugh at the kind of things they can get into to cause more grey hairs and anxiety. Glad to hear she's ok.

You have no idea how grateful I am that we didn't have to rip the house apart to get her out.

I love it--Angel is isn't and never will be-----Cats are just too, too curious for their own good. I guess that is why they have 9 lives!

I would have been FREAKING out!

I did! I was trying to decide what to do first, rip out the walls or the floor. I haven't felt like that since my son, at age five, walked in the back door covered in blood. His best friend had hit him on the head with a shovel.

Whatever weight she lost in the five to ten minutes she was in there (seemed like forever at the time) she gained back scarfing down the kitty treats, afterwards.

Better the house ate the cat than the cat ate the house. See how crazy I am thinking this morning? My nickname in college was "Kitten", because if I could find a window with sunshine, I could be found in it. Don't work too hard. Nena

Silly kitty! We had a hamster do a similar thing. My brother let his hamster run around the bathroom, not knowing there was a hole under the cabinet... We could hear the hamster scratching inside the walls. My mother freaked. I coaxed it half way out of the hole with some treats, my mom noticed, and GRABBED the hamster, and pulled it out.

I've seen cat squeeze into some tight places. It doesn't surprise me that she got in there. Our corky followed my hubby up in the attic, it took us forever to get her out of there..

Yeah...I would have never thought she could do that...but she sure did. Then she panicked...it took us 2 hrs to get her out of there..

She climbed the ladder?

Make a hole and a cat will get into it. it's the way cats work. first they make you crazy, then you give them treats. Cats: Cunning, baffling, powerful.Just like Alcohol! Addictive, too!

After 26 years of owning/being owned by multiple cats you would think I'd have known that.
