  J O B (S) !!!

FINALLY.

My neighbor saw a 'help wanted' sign at our local nursery. Yup. A NURSERY! I love plants but am not educated in this field. Went there early last week, 3 days in a row to observe people, notice things and jot down my findings.

On Saturday, I inquired about the position. On Sunday I had an interview and was hired! BUT - - - only after a 45-minute nonstop barrage of questions by the owner. She told me what the last 6 months has been like in terms of sales. Down 80% from a year ago!

Main reason: INCOMPETENT HELP!!! She was NOT about to hire ANOTHER incompetent! It was THE most unconventional interview I've EVER had!

-What can YOU bring to this business?
-How OLD are you?
-What's your MODE of transportation?
-How many HOURS can you work? Can you start next Saturday at 10am? DON'T show up at 10am. Come early, put your lipstick on and BE READY to start at 10am!

Then today, I had an interview at the design studio two blocks away. He loved my portfolio and asked if I'd like to work full time, part-time, or freelance! He will give me a package design job on Friday!

Came home to check emails . . . got a freelancing job that will provide a substantial income! Brother!!!

When it rains, it POURS!

Oh Syl! This is FANTASTIC news!!!! Although I'm not surprized, especially with the desing studio job! You are SO talented and creative! (The greeting cards that you sent to me were absolutely BEAUTIFUL!)
I worked in a nursery/greenhouse when I was in college, and I absolutely loved it. Peaceful, good, get-your-hands-dirty-and-feel-good-about-yourself work!
I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!

I would love to work in a nursery garden. The smell of compost and chicken manure would delight my cats when I got home.

I love this nursery. The owner has taste and an upscale clientele. Unfortunately, she's been burned by lazy, apathetic employees, who have ignored customers while on the job. Nurseries and gardens always beckon me to stop and smell the roses, take time to think, and move myself out of resignation about anything and toward resolution. This job will afford many opportunities to get acquainted w/clients and be a listening presence. It's also stressless yet physical, so I'm looking forward to all of it. Y'know what, darlin'? It's BACKWARDS! The design studio was a test and the nursery is a blessing from above! My design interview went smoothly, garnering me a freelance job. But it also gave me a clearer picture of what my soul needs right now. The nursery interview went smoothly as well, and I could see that the owner was hard-pressed to tell me about her 45-minute rant. It didn't intimidate me an iota. I believe she saw that and found my sincerity somewhat of a relief (at least that's what I intuited). Unlike her other employees who boasted of their plant knowledge, (yet didn't bear it out on the job and certainly not on her clients) I never said a thing. She said she prefers mature women b/c they understand a work ethic that today's younger somethings don't. As the interview came to a close, she gave me one question to answer besides the above VERY pointed questions: how many hours can you work?

That nursery job doesn't sound good - it sounds like she is blaming her employees for things out of their control, and the way those questions sound, I don't think she knows how to deal with people. The freelancing job sounds good, congratulations!
