  Can't Please Everybody

I think that's one of the first things you learn as a therapist....not everybody is going to find you worthy. Not everybody is going to like you. Some people won't come back. Some people just won't "get it". Or maybe they see your process and delivery and don't want to get on that ride.

And then there will be those others. Those people who define counter-transference. Those people who move you as you make an equally important difference in their life. Those people who look forward to your insights. Those who's light seems to have turned on. Those who see you as a guide in the process of self discovery.

I can't remember everyone I have worked with. But you do not forget some who have challenged your core, made you better. Those who brought you to your talent and aided in your delivery of parallel processes. Those who have your ultimate respect for human survival and excellence.

I work hard to not forget the pain of others. Allow them to feel it. Give them the respect to own it. I can't take it home with me. It is not my process. I am the guide, the vessel, the confidant who feels honored to walk with many on their journey. As I allow those close to me to walk next to me on mine. We are all a part of the process.

I, too, celebrate the process. The work my psychologist and I did together was so healing and transformational. It was and is a huge gift in my life.

I was especially touched by your last paragraph...I consider my therapist to be just that...a guide. She has been there for me since the time I hit a really difficult low in my life. Because of her help I have learned a lot and have grown a lot.

You know it's the same with being a teacher, you certainly can't please everyone at all!

I had a wonderful counselor, he just seemed to know what was inside my head and he helped me figure out so many things about myself. there are things he said that I still remember. Like, God doesn't make junk.

It is so true that not everyone will agree with you or like you... but we still want them to... I know I do. And, the funny thing is that sometimes you think they don't, and years later they will tell you how much you helped them and how they were thankful for you... Life is funny; people are, too!
