Last month I had my computer repaired. The repair man had to replace the power supply and mother board. When I got it back, it worked for two weeks and then quit. What the new repair shop found out was that the original Windows shipped with the computer was not activated. I was upset. The original repair was not done properly. The new hardware was not compatible with Windows, and all that he had to do was activate it. I hope this helps someone else, because it has cost me. Being retired, we cannot afford these mistakes. The original repair shop said he could not fix it unless I buy the new Windows Vista! He has lost a customer, and I will spread the word!!!!
I hope that this is the last of this. It is working Great, and this is the first time I have had trouble with the PC since I purchased it over 4 years ago. By the way, the brand is E-Machine. The repair shop is concerned with the hard drive. He says that it does not sound good. It may be wearing out. I will need to decide how I can protect my files. I purchased a 1GB USB flash device to backup my files. I am trying to decide now if another hard drive is needed. In the meantime, I will make a CD copy of files that I want to keep.
This has been a lesson learned. At least my shop is OK. I will now be able to go out there and finish laundry cabinets that I started.
